on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 224 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2003 Posts: 224 | i read recently from someone on another forum discouraging the use of the conversion kits for the 64-66 c-10s that utilize the later model saginaw power steering box with a special bracket that is drilled and installed on the frame. its a pretty popular conversion for these years trucks and many companies provide these kits. has anyone ever run into any problems with these conversions? the guy was saying that they prevent full turning potential on one side. just wondering if anyone has any warnings for me before i go ahead with it thanks, murdoc | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | Murdoc, I did one about 6 months ago on a 65 C-20. It is alive and well and have had no problems. Follow the directions for the conversion & line everything up and I'm sure it will be fine. Fred

The 60-62 is more difficult then the later ones but it worked good. If his was out of center he had the wrong piman arm or the tie rods were out of adjustment. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. anyone know how well this setup fairs against the factory power assisted steering that originally came with these year pickup? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Much better. The old original system used the control valve & ram. It was troublesome & didn't give a quicker ratio. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. The only thing to watch out for is, I got a real tight ratio and it's a little touchy to drive, real sensative. I ended up liking it once I got used to it, Scott | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | As Scott mentioned there are gear boxes with different ratios. I used the one that had about 4.1 turns which I think is standard. The other one that I am aware of has about 3.6 turns, it might be a little too quick for most uses. Fred
