on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 51 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2007 Posts: 51 | I am looking at a nice GMC 54 3/4 ton std shift pu. [I had a 53 with a 235 in it] This motor is blue, and has gmc embossed on the valve cover but it has 2 studs for the hold down , looks like a oil filter on the right front of the motor, can anybody tell me what motor it is and do you think its original? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 132 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 132 | Probably a GMC 228. Look just behind the distributor, there will be a machined flat with numbers/letters stamped into it. the first 3 will be the engine size. 228,270 etc. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | The code plate on the door pillar will have a 24 indicating a 248.

I would expect a 248. A 228 is going to look original in that truck, but I don't think it is original. What does the trucks serial number say?

The title still reads 228xxxxxx. The door plate, of course has 24 on it. | | |
