| | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 308 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 308 | Well, I wanted to finish my engine before the end of this summer but ran out of time. it is still on the engine stand and I want to make sure it still turns when the winter is over, I know some of you guys have said to put some oil in the plug holes(correct?) Can you guys give me a brief on the best way to store this and what to do when the winter is over? Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Ed | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 206 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 206 | If you rebuilt it ,it should have oil on the rings and lube on bearings already.But it still wouldn't hurt to spray fogging oil in the cyl's and turn it over anyway.Light{30wt) oil would work also.Keep it covered with a sheet or cloth tarp.Don't use plastic as moistre can form under the plastic.
When you finish it up in spring just prime the oil systym-use a drill with a screwdriver or old dist shaft in the dist drive,install dist, fire it up.It'll smoke for a bit till the oil burn's off but it'll be ok.Tom | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | As Grub said ...maybe a little extra oil ...the ? is ...where ya storin it ??..if inside with a bit of regulated Temp. ..RE:HEAT would be best .

In the spring is when most of the condensation is going to occur. Open the garage doors on a nicer day and vent the building when you get the chance. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 | Spray WD-40 in the spark plug holes and put some old spark plugs in the holes, hand tight. Spray the rockers down with WD-40 and put the valve cover on. Do not wrap it in plastic because it will build up with moisture through condensation.
