I was told there is at leaste one product on the maket that bolts to the lower center dash flange, thus eliminating "butchering" the dash with a cut out or locating the unit in an unconvieniant location (glove box etc). My sound system unit is a Kenwood, with standard dimensions.

They probably have a box full of them in the back. I think I paid $30.00. I bent 2 pieces of flatbar to hook in the firewall braces, come down and hold the stereo box and then go up behind the dash and secure to the holes beside the delete plate. No holes drilled at all this way. Here's a pic: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1377797155023244788NFaLVF

If so heres an idea mount it under your seat in the center , youll just have to cut a small hole for the face to protrude out through the seat frame and you can use the remote, youll just have to be stopped to change a CD lol. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | You could also mount it in the glove box, who uses it to store gloves any more?

I am looking for a supplier of the "custom" sterio mounting bracket that is manufactured to fit in the stove bolts. It is designed to conform to and bolts to the bottom of the original dash. Unlike the aftermarket plastic marine radio mounting box in the photo previously posted it gives the dash a streamlined uniform look.(and NO, the old style under the dash metal brackets are not readily available at most sterio shops). I have considered the other location mentioned, under the seat on the seat frame is inconveinient not only for CD loading, but makes the digital clock and radio station display features of my sterio unit worthless, and requires "butchering" the seat frame. Same goes for inside the "glove box", no gloves in there, but it sure is conveinient for registration papers, a small tool kit and flashlight.

A subwoofer firing through the seat would work good back there.
If done well, Jim, your under-seat idea looks like it would work pretty good. Some purists will cringe though.
Curt, that's a beautiful color you've chosen for your dash. Looks like Viper Blue to me. What steering column did you use, by the way?
Will, you could either check with Crutchfield (but I kind of don't think they'll make anything for us AD-owners), or possibly look into Classic Industries. Classic Industries sell a more modern stereo that is modified to fit in the dash in the original radio location, but I believe it's a tape deck. For a CD, why not install a CD changer under the seat? I guess you could mount a CD changer in the glovebox, and if done cleverly, you might even still have a little storage space left in the glove box. Also, you know, the back corners of the cab, on either side of the seat, would be a decent location for a pair of speakers in custom-boxes.

My column is original but the color is not. I did all my grey parts with "greystone" which came on 2004 Grand Prix's. Actually that box of mine is a Crutchfield item shown here: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=752&i=120999000&c=3&tp=1114I found I had enough room to make 2 wedge type boxes and mount a pair of 6 x 9 's in them above the gas tank. Sounds great and no butchery.

I always thought it was a real neat setup and hidden from prying eyes. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 | There is a manufacturer that makes a stereo called Hidden Audio. I think I saw that in Classic Industries catalogues as well. It is completely hidden and operated by remote control. If there is a CD changer added separately, I guess you could hide it behind the grill and have the CD pop out from between the slats. That's very clever. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 | i've seen stereos behind the speaker grill, run by remote control. very slick and hidden. cd changer else where. HRD ''If done well, Jim, your under-seat idea looks like it would work pretty good. Some purists will cringe though.'' Naugh I'm into having everything work for me. heck even my H.R.D has a kabota tractor alternator.... http://www.mcnews.com.au/Features/2003/Vincent_Rapide/VincentRapide.htmwhy cause it works better than the original and the purists in my club do the same.
