I haven't put in the two hole version as I wonder if it should be the one hole or two hole version originally? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | What I was wondering about guys is the fact that there is now bezel or trim ring like I've seen on the later trucks. Tims Suburban for instance. This one looks like it was an after thought. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I was gonna stick this link in that Tim posted. It shows his switch rill nice and purty. http://72.228.53.69//Photos/Reassembly/slides/13_54%20clockdash.html Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

The 47-53 ignition switch was held to the dash from the rear with a mounting plate (2.192). All years used the same switch/cylinder (2.188). I think yours looks original for 1950 (47-53 - no bezel ring). Tim | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | I'se askin' this one, because out of the hundred or cockpits that I looked into this summer they all had been mutilated, opps, sorry, I mean "customized". Dern near impossible to find a stock Advanced Design truck round these parts at any of the shows that I went to. I only found one show that was in any way connected with VCCA and there wasn't one stock AD there. Thanks for the info guys. Well if that's the original switch, then I still think it reeks of Rube Goldberg who must have been the designer. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Not hardly. Actually, I think my newly remanufactured 235 is going to have to be pulled and taken back for another reman-reman. The engine now has 400 miles on it since a complete reman but there is something about a mysterious clunk, clunk, clunk towards the forward end that I'm not real comfortable with. This noise seems to increase at idle as the engine heats up. I've done the rod to ear thing but can't pinpoint the location. It's just not right. It's a real bummer to get the truck to where I have it and now think about yanking the engine. Anyway, I'll take a photo of the ignition switch for you. This switch is actually rather a pain as the wiring is encapsulated in spiral wound metal flex conduit. I have no idea as to where the po may have come across it but I've found odder things during this rebuild. Don My 1941 in the Stovebolt Gallery My Photo AlbumBut I tried, didn't I? ... Samantha | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 428 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 428 | The pic looks like switch in my 52. I suspect that it is made that way so that the light next to the switch illuminates the switch when the dash lights are on. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | It does do that Jimmie D! Thanks Sam, ya I'm sure by '54 they had fired Rube and an gotten a real designer in place. Hey Don, I thought that's the way the Bolt was supposed to sound??? Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I don't have one on my 51 and I'm guessing it must be just for the 1954. Sorry I didn't see that page ealier. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 108 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 108 | Your switch looks just like mine (1951), and appears to be stock, the switch face looks sloppy with the gap between it and the dash hole, but this small circular space around the switch face is there to allow the light from the ignition switch light (behind) to illuminate the ignition switch face when the headlight/parking lights are turned on. Putting on a bezel would clean up the appearance but would render the light feature useless.
Best Regards Will
