I am going to do the bed in my truck. Just with a "rhino-liner" type material because putting a wood bed in it right now just isnt feasable. The truck needs a repaint, etc, but the bed is a real eyesore.

Anyone do it and what do you suggest? I have seen the do-it yourself sprays and the roller paint type.

Anyone?

Lori66, I did the bed walls and bed strips with the roll on bed liner made by Plastikote. Purchased it at Wal-Mart for about $40 a gallon and I like the way it looks. Wal-Mart didn't have the applicator kit so I just used a 2" varnish brush to dab it on with the end of the bristles, kind of like using a stencil brush. That technique gives a much better look than just brushing it on. The Plastikote bed liner has a lot of texture to it, looks like large grained sand. Check out the link to see a pic of my bed.

It worked really well, kept stuff from sliding around. I didn't use the UV coat, so within a year it faded a little bit to black with a grayish hue. It still worked fine for many year until it was totaled.

It is fairly labor intensive, getting it clean and scuffing it up... I picked a pretty hot day so that the bed would dry out good, between the decreasing and what not.

I've seen the stuff sold in parts stores and at hardware stores.

You can read the instructions on the website and decided if it is something you want to tackle or not.

I want to do the same thing with my bed. I plan to do the sides with POR-15 and then the POR bedliner. The wood is going to be POR-15 and Bhear exterior paint. A test of wood finishes by Mar-K showed that this combo stands up to the elements the best and since the beds were painted from the factory, has the most authentic finish.

POR-15 simply does NOT like sun so if your parts a re exposed be prepared

I always liked 1/4" thick rubber mats on the bottom of mine. I haven't used the spray on liners yet. A friend of mine did a Hurculiner type coating and had it sprayed the color of the truck. He said they wouldn't garantee the spray on liner but he had no problems with it since.

I used the Platstikote liner on the door steps and the bed steps on mine, as well as the entire interior floor. Went on ver nicely. I used the spray cans for the cab floor, but the steps were done with a roller. The roller kits can be found at Auto Zone, the kit uses a different foller cover to get the texture.
