My driver's side window won't crank up. Even though I crank the handle, it just sits there. I can grasp it with my palms, both inside and out, and pull it up. I'm going to read my shop manual to see what Mr. Goodwrench has to say about it, but I'd love to know what real life experience has to say. Anyone have this problem before? How is it fixed?

There's plenty of vendors that sell complete regulators, shouldn't be a problem getting it fixed up, Scott | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 679 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2006 Posts: 679 | I suspected it could be that a few months ago, and added one to an order for other parts. The handle has a little floppiness to it. Just three attachment points, right? I don't think anything else has to come out if I can get to those screws.
I'll start with that and go from there. Thanks for the input. (Shop manual wasn't a wealth of info, if you ask me.)

I will try and find the vendor name but for 6$ it sure had good info on this kind of stuff. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 70 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 70 | I JUST did my window regulators because I had a special problem. The Australian built 41-46 had basically identical regulators but different window cranks with early plastic/potmetal crank handle which were broken off. Can't find any complete Aussie cranks, so I bought 2 of the $15 regulator repair kits from Classic Parts and replaced the Australian crankhandle points with US ones and used US cranks, problem solved. My windows easily glide up and down, just like new.

I found the set screw in the inside handle had loosed up. I pushed in on the handle and tightened up the screw. It worked. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 679 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2006 Posts: 679 | Does someone have an exploded view of the window crank assembly? The interior skin is in the way of seeing how it works. My regulator works fine- when you crank the handle, the rack moves up and down like it should. However, the scissor mechanism doesn't seem to be connected to the rack. When I stuff my hand inside the door, I can feel a flat bracket on the end of the rack that has a hole in it, but it otherwise is connected only to the rack. It flops around suspiciously, and I have no idea what it is supposed to connect to, or how to connect it.
I think my problem is that the crank mechanism needs connecting to the scissor subassembly.
Any suggestions? Any pictures out there? Thanks in advance!

If there is a picture, I'll make you a copy. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 679 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2006 Posts: 679 | Thanks! I'm looking forward to any info you can provide.
I checked my shop manual, but the only graphics I could find in there are photos of what I'm looking at. Sure wish I had x-ray vision...

Actually the first picture helped a lot to show me that there is just no way around disassembling the thing. When it came to the heater rebuild, I jumped right in and had fun with it. I'm not so excited this time. This doesn't look so fun. I have a question for you: what does the spring do? Does it provide the tension to keep the window in the up position? I have a sinking feeling about mine.
