I'm wondering what the difference in doors are. I have priced doors from the three places I usually buy things from and they are anywhere from 380.00 to 700.00. All of them are just door shells. Is the 700.00 one made from original dies and the 380.00 one from china or what?

I can not specifically answer your question but I doubt that any are being stamped from original dies. If so it would be all over the USA today newspaper. I also would not be surprised to see that big of difference from one vendor or the other. I can just about guess who had the higher price! Some vendors just will not operate with less markup than others. Just a fact of life. If the doors your looking for is for the 56 listed in your profile then look around for a while in the Parts for Sale forum and list it in the Parts Wanted Forum also. I looked long and hard for some for my 52 and finally found 2 very nice ones in Utah. Total for both including shipping was $400 and well worth it.They are nice and have new glass. Choice is yours but I would look around for a spell.

Can the earlier doors with pull down handles be converted to push button handles without too much trouble, anyone?

Ridgeview, I ask this question as I had one "50" door on my 52 panel. I understand it can be done but not a real easy job. Someone else may know the "how to's" better but I'm glad I went for the correct door. I think it may have had something to do with teh latches??? Hang tight as someone with better insight will be along shortly.

hello ridgeview. i am going through the same thing with the doors but in reverse.yes they can would be the short answer but you will have to find the piece that sits inside the door that the push botton handle is held in place by.and the screw pattern for the latch is different.that should not be to hard to overcome.the door striker would have to be changed and that depends upon what year your truck is.i have sceen newer style strikers notched with a grinder to accept the older style latch,my friend has it on his 54.best fitting catching doors around these parts but i wouldn't do it .i gave up and went with a set of doors made for push botton handles.

I understand the problem. I have a 52 with an earlier drivers side door. I think that unless you are well versed in metal fabrication the easiest and cheapest way will be to get a new door. The handle from an earlier door will require filling and shaping to the proper size. Then you will need to fabricate a new support-stiffiner for inside the door. I have access to a full metal shop, and I decided to buy a new door. 150$ including shipping. No rot, no rust, just prep, paint and install. Plus I am one cheap SOB. If I thought I could modify the existing door I would have. Just my thoughts on it, Jimmie.
