Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 84 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 84 | I am going out to visit the truck this weekend and plan on replacing the door glass (1948 GMC). What is the best way to go about this? It is about a 60 mile trip and would like any info you can give as far as tools, tips ect... so it is not a wasted trip.
Thanks. Trey | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 355 Member | | Member Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 355 | I dont think your going to be able to do it like you want to. Its sometimes a bear to get the door parts off. You need to have about anything that kills along with you. Might be you should go take the doors off it, bring them back home were you can work on them with all your tools handy. Some thing on them just have to soak in P oil before you can move them. | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | This may be helpful (I hope) ... it is a bit of a bear of a project ... but it wasn't all that bad for me: Click Here And Here

You'll need every possible size and type of locking pliers made, probably a hammer and chisel, some heat would be nice and a standard socket/wrench set with a variety of screw drivers. A fully charged cordless drill with a fresh set of bits to release the bolts that the other tools won't get too.
Use some penetrating oil on the mechanisms first and work them so they work easier because you'll have to move the regulator some to get it apart. Besides, it would be easier to free-up when it's still mounted to the door.
