Do you see any trucks in the gallery with the kind of bedsides you are looking for?

Hi Peggy
Here is what I would like my stovebolt pick up box sides to look like.

This was from the post "beds any original thinking out there"
http://customclassictrucks.com/howto/7020/
look at the 7 picture down.
Mar-k said that was a 1954 box. I have a 48 3100 short box. They also didn't know if that box would work on my truck.

That's what i would like my box to look like. Any advice would be great as to if that box will fit on my truck. Will the holes line up?
Let me know.

Tom

Tomy: The flat side 54 bed will fit but there's one problem, the frame rails over the back axle of your 48 kicks up higher than the rails on the 54 truck because when they flattened out the bedrails in 54 they made the bed deeper so it would a comperable size. Here's a pic picture I made several years ago showing the difference.

There are a few different option.
1. You could modify your frame rails (not a good idea).
2. Let them stick through your bed floor (Ugly, but I've seen it done).
3. Put bigger wooden blocks between the frame rail and bed to raise it up higher (Not bad but might look funny and the splash pan between the running board and bed in front of the back fenders won't reach).

Might be some other options but those are the one's I can think of this late.

Try this for #4 option. Buy '54 bedsides without angles and weld angles on a couple inches higher than normal. Leave fender holes in the normal position. The bedsides would sit in the normal position for a '54 but the wood would be 2" higher. Use a '54 rear sill, front panel,'54 splash aprons, 2-1/8" wood blocks and 1-7/8" cross sills so the wood is in the same position as the original '48 bed. Add a spacer between the '54 rear sill and the wood or raise the rear sill 2" higher in the rear stake pockets. Most of the parts needed would be standard parts. It would still look odd when you open the tailgate because the wood would be higher than the tailgate. It might be better than having the whole bed sit 2" too high.

It is usually best if you can use standard parts. There are enough problems assembling a custom truck, without having to do design and dealing with unforseen problems.

we have http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/benjaminson_jim_1932.htm and http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/edwards_glenn_1932_01.htm and http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/gothan_mike_1933.htm They will be willing to help you.
And if you want it all ready made, I have a catalog of "Mack Products" and they do have some parts. Nice people and a good catalog or look at the website https://www.mackhils.com/mack_products/cart/index.asp?CategoryNo=23

Good luck

Richard
