All it does is warm the intake manifold with exhaust. Without the spring, the valve stays open. When the engine is cold, the spring closes the valve allowing hot exhaust to go to the intake.

Wouldn't idle less than 1500-2000 RPM, choke on. I checked the plugs and then the points. Gap was WAY off. Once fixed, it idles great when warm.
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

Found that the intake manifold was sucking air from the bottom of the gasket. The fix was to grind the manifold. Found that the Fenton hedders were holding the intake at a slight angle and the intake would not fit the head flush. Grinding took place on the bottom of the intake for clearence between it and the headders. Intake sets flush to head and vacuum leak went away. | | |
