Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the Ranco valve is? Do I need it for the heater? Also, I have 3 wires on my heater blower motor. Which goes where?

The Valve regulates the amount of water that flows through the heater core. You can shut the water off in the summer to reduce the heat flow into the cab or manually adjust the amount of water that will flow through the heater core to get that just right temperature for the desired fan speed.

The valve isn't absolutely necessary to run a heater it is just a way to regulate the water flow through the heater core.

So then, do I connect 1 heater hose from the engine to the Ranco, then from the Ranco to the heater core, then the heater core back to the engine?

Yes , that's correct and when it begins to leak (it will) don't worry , just go to NAP and order up a Balkamp # 660-1000 kit , it contains the special rubber washer that is what leaks plus a poorly mimiographed page of instructions . list price is well under $10.00 .

Take your time and work over a large towel as there's tiny bits , easily lost .

Take pictures of it from various angles as it is possible to re-assemble it wrong .

if you break off some of the tabs you can solder it back to-gether .

There is no problem so difficult it cannot be overcome by generous application of brute force & ignorance

Thanks Nate.
I'm also assuming either hose can go to either tube on the Ranco.
Thanks again. I wish I woulda paid more attention to my dad when he was workin on these trucks!
