The ODOMETER worked fine. Because of a bad syncro in the original transmission I found a replacement from a 59. After the switch my odometer never worked. The cable hooks up the same. I even switched the speedometer gear on the side of the transmission. They looked identical but it didn't help. I assume the gear on the mainshaft of the transmission is out. any other ideas? should I rebuild the original transmission with the bad synchro or the working transmission which doesn,t turn my odometer(speedo cable)? | | |

The turning part is really a tightly wound spring. It sticks a bit and then catches up. It happened to me on another truck. Can you take out the odometer to see if the drive gear or something else is stripped?

What you describe is "classic" broken/kinked cable. | | |

The odometer works on the same cable and was working just fine with no noise until I switched transmissions. Since I tried switching the external speedometer gear on the trani I assume it is the mainshaft gear? simple or hard to replace? | | |
