I just picked up a '65 SWB Pickup with the original motor/tranny/ etc etc. I was just wondering if there was a place to see how many of these trucks came with the 283 engine.

This one has a " High Torque" 283, at least that's what it says ont he valve cover. It has the power pack heads and A/C. Just kind of curious to learn more about this truck

Welcome aboard. There are many sources available regarding production numbers for the 1965, C-10 engine and driveline combinations. I would start with a Shop Manual. The 1963 Shop Manual covers most of the equipment on this platform but you must also get the 1965 Supplement. Also, I recommend getting a Factory Assembly Manual for you 1965. I purchased mine from ChevyDuty.com. They are also available on eBay, LMCtruck.com and many other sources. Best of luck with you '65.

Hey Murdoc, I do't mind telling you. It IS a project truck though so it wasn't too bad of a price I don't think. I paid $1K for it. Here is a picture of it.

It looks worse than it is, that is all mostly surface rust. So did I pay too much ?

don't know if you'll have much luck finding out 'how many' anything on 60's trucks, but by then V8s were gettin more popular, and the story is that by 66 over a third of all Chev trucks produced were V8 - guess that's why they call 60-66 'the V8 era' trucks - in 65 Chev called'em "Work Power" trucks, and according to my references there was 131,395 C10s [C1400] produced in the US in 65

65 was the beginning of the 'camper specials', which option included the 283, so you may have onea those - the AC option would have also included a higher output alternator - mighta been the reason for the 'power pack' option too, tho' all the 283's then were called 'hi-torque' [327's too I think]

Thanks Bill, I never knew any of that. Do you have any ideas or suggestions of where to start learning more about these trucks in the sense of swapping front suspension, what disk brake set-ups will work, etc etc. I'm also wondering what rear ends came in this truck. Do you have any ideas what the HP and Torque rating this truck would have had with the 283 ? Sorry I have so many questions but I'm trying to learn some stuff.

Good because I was really worried that maybe I was paying too much for it. I should be bringing her home tomorrow afternoon, I cannot wait to start tearing into it. It's a one owner truck so I'm hoping to find some old papers or something in there when I start taking it apart

Hey real quick, while I have some of your attention. I'm used to rebuilding, working on, and buying and selling '55 - '57 Belairs and have NO clue as to what catalogs to start getting. Who should I call or contact for full parts catalogs for this truck ? even websites with online catalogs would be great. Who do you suggest or suggest staying away from.

Hi folks

I don't see those trucks in the rough much anymore but I did see the same type of truck in the picture while I was on vacation and business last summer in Houston BC at a trailer park for sale for $500.00 with a original green 292 engine in it 1964 to 1966 style.

It was a short box too would make a good project truck, was dry not rusted out, not an eastern truck just in case someone lives close to that area they might want to check it out, Houston BC is a small town it might still be available.?

Get yourself a couple of magazines. Custom Trucks and Classic Custom Trucks. They are full of vendors that will have everything you'll ever need for your truck, and a lot of their catalogs are free. Just a thought,
