Okay, I have been hearing different stories.
In a 1950 1/2 or 3/4 ton panel, There was no difference in them other than the running gear, correct?

In a 1ton, Is there an approximate 1 inch difference in size in the grill, fenders and dash?

If there is, What would be a good indicator without measuring?

Would the rear barn doors be any different aswell?

The reason I am asking is because I found a perfectly good panel at a local yard, And I think it is a 1 ton.
It is longer in length than a half ton and has 8 lug wheels.

It is so clean and rust free, That it could possibly be driven out of there.
But due to it being in a yard, They would only sell it in three parts meaning cutting it in sections.

You would not believe how clean this panel is.

Any help??

Thanks
Javier

A 1 ton should have a 137" wheel base.
The front sheetmetal including grill is the same as the smaller trucks. I believe the dash is the same up through at least 2.5 ton.

Are you serious they would have cut it up to sell it? If so that's absolutely ridiculous. What a waste of a good body.

There was no 3/4 ton Chevrolet Panel in 1950.

Grigg's information is correct.
The 1/2 ton and 1 ton panel's dashes were the same.
Rear doors would have been the same.

Beg them not to cut it up.

tell them you will take off the body from the frame and then cut the frame in half if that is last resort

They must not have a title for it, and therefore they can not sell it as a complete vehicle. While I understand the desire not to see it cut up, it may be real hard to get proper paperwork for it.

Buy the barn doors and rear fenders off of it ASAP.

Then ask them if they can sell it at an auction like would happen with an abandoned car. I don't know if that would work in CA but in Washington that might be a way to get it sold with paper. Just make sure you show up at the auction with enough money!

I wonder if they would go for separating the front clip and selling you the two pieces. That is a very special find.

The 1 Ton has a thicker front bumper and the bumper supports are much shorter as it is closer to the end of the frame.

Hopefully there is a way to avoid cutting it up.

If they insist on selling it in 3 parts,,buy the front end,,then the doors,,then the body.
Then go to d.m.v. and register it as abandoned on one of your "rental properties",with no plates and paperwork. Good Luck,
Marty

I talked to the guy about the panel today.
He stated that they will try to make it into a historical vehicle therefore avoiding the torch.
And I would be able to get it out in one piece.
If that does not fly we went over as to how to get it out in three parts.

I took some of your advice with me and gave it to him like this:
First part would consist of the whole front clip including the engine and front axel, hub to hub.
Second would consist of all the doors, running boards, both seats and any other interior components.
Third would leave the whole body off the frame and on to my trailer.
The frame would have to stay.
I tried to convince him of making the whole frame with the axles and engine as one part. I think he might go for it.
He too does not want to see it cut up, But he is just following protocol

Question is "What am I going to do with a 1ton body if the frame stays"?
I know I will use the rear barn doors (they have the deluxe ss),the driver and pass doors w/ss,grill,fenders (holes and clips for the seargent strips but no strips) and some of the interior components.
The seats are spoken for by a friend.

Would any body need a 1 ton panel body?
