I don't think that came from an assembly line. It looks to be a conversion and most likely starting with a truck and not a panel or burb. It has truck fenders on the back of it and not panel fenders look at the rear fender in this Picture and then look at the rear fender on the woody and you'll notice the two fenders have a completely different contour. looks like who ever converted it did a really good job and was done many years ago

That wagon looks great! ! There is a web site www.oldwoodies.com you might like to check out. It is amazing the variety of makes that were used for these conversions.
Wish I could find detailed blueprints or plans for building one of these... maybe on a '40's Cadillac front clip! ..... (I am 'California Dreaming')
Thanks for sharing

I can't believe that no one stopped this guy from using a fiberglass fender on a $100,000 classic!

That is indeed a Campbell Built "Highlander" Woody Wagon. The Highlander was built on 1/2 ton chassis, & you could get them in 3 more different sizes. The Campbell "Club", was built on a 3/4 ton chassis, the Campbell "Surrey" was built on a 1 ton chassis, & the Campbell "Convoyer" was built on a 1 1/2 ton chassis. I saw one of these coming into town last month, on a '48-'50 Dodge chassis. I'd love to have one.

The 1954 Truck Data book shows this style "Custom Station Wagon" as being a special body (Vocational Equipment) mounted (by others) on a 3612 Light-Duty Chassis and Windshield Cowl (11-passengers; pickup fenders) or mounted on a 3812 Medium-Duty Chassis and Windshield Cowl (14 passengers; pickup fenders).

George, the one I saw was a civilian chassis, like in picture 3. The Campbell info., I've gathered came from a 1953 Chevrolet Truck Silver Book. It shows the Highlander as accomodating 6-8 passengers, the Club accomodating 11 passengers, the Surrey, as accomodating 11 passengers, & the Convoyer, as accomodating 14-18 passengers.

Great looking rig! But, 100K is a lot of money for a toy. I'd rather spend 10-20K on a truck that I wasn't afraid to drive.

Just realized that George M has already bookmarked this site for you that I was going to mention.

http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/c/campbell_midstate/campbell_midstate.htm

For those of you that didn't go there at first (like me) it has a short history of the Campbell company, shows a picture of the woodie that started this thread and shows an ad for Campbell-built station wagons ( the bottom picture) which mentions the same models, I believe, that Spanky is referring to.

Nice find, George.

Let's see the ad says we could call them at "Waterloo 66" to get some more info .............I guess we'll need a time machine to make that call.
