Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 12 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 12 | Hello, I just bought a 1-Ton panel and am going to use it for weekend camping trips. I'm replacing the 216 cracked block engine with a 292 out of a 69 truck and adding a 350 auto with a hurst "rod" automatic shifter. Lo buck and looks kind of stock. Will maintain original brakes, frame and suspension. I'll add power brake kit when I figure the cheapest way to do it. Anybody have any ideas for running boards on this 1 Ton? The originals are pretty bad. With enough parts, you might (I repeat: MIGHT) be able to section a set of far more available 3/4-ton fenders and extend them to the right length. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | You don't say what's wrong with the ones you have.
First thing would be to put an ad in the parts wanted section of the swap meet. Someone may have some priced reasonable.
My second thought is to repair the ones you have. Sections of the edge or top surfaces from any running board could be used to patch holes. Lots of work yes, but given the rough look you describe, not as bad as it might be.
I have a set on a 1-ton panel that are awful. I've wondered what I could do with them, and currently think I'll play the repair game.

I waited for about a year for mine and purchased a set of the long ones. One is just about 100% and the other will require some work. There seems to be less bidding activity over the longer boards. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 30 Member | | Member Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 30 | Those rare 1 ton long boards are avaliable if you put a wanted ad in the swapmeet section. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Fiberglass is also available. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I would definitely try M.T. if you want some good ones. That way you save yourself some work. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 12 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 12 | I've pulled the gas tank out and it needs some major rust repair, radiator needs recored and I can't seem to find replacements. I'm thinking of sending the tank out to be "restored" and buying a new radiator with automatic trans cooler from American Classic Trucks. Not sure if the one ton panel is the same dimensions as the ones for the 1/2 ton trucks Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thanks. Additionally, the radiator is the same as any 1/2-ton to 1-ton Chebby. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 52 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 52 | I know this post is old but I thought I would see if you are still out there and how things are going with your Panel Truck. I am going to be starting a similar journey to yours this spring.
