I've put 350 miles on Viejo (my '41) and am quite pleased with the ride so far. I do have a punch list of mechanicals and bodywork that will be attended to in due time.

After installing a new internally resisted coil, new points and condenser the engine starts and runs fine. The main mechanical issue pertains to some clutch noise when the clutch pedal is depressed. I appears that there is something going on with the pressure plate fingers rubbing when pressure is applied. This will necessitate moving the tranny back and removing the clutch assembly. In addition I really need to renew the leaf spring and shock pins and bushings. I picked up the parts at Jim Carter's while at the Kansas City Nationals.

Monday a week from now Viejo will be headed back to the bodyshop for some cosmetic and refit work. I know this is a bit backwards but it's how the deal was structured. The most problematic issue will more than likely be the driver's side door fitting and the driver's side rear fender reworking.

The whole truck will be wet-sanded and buffed to remove some of the remaining imperfections in the paint job. Also, most of the interior including the dash, door inside skins, and cab back will be removed and once more repainted with the brown hammertone paint from JC. The interior paint work was done by three different painters over a period of 6 months or so. The new ABS headliner will be installed also.

I'm hoping to have everything done in time to join our small city's 50th anniversary parade on November 3rd.

Here's a photo of Viejo posing at a restored filling station. Unfortunately the old filling station is now an art shop.

Sure is pretty. And 350 miles with no trouble? You must be feeling mighty cocky.

Not really cletis. She stopped dead in the trail one day and it turned out the coil had fried. Prior to that I was having charging problems which were traced to the voltage regulator. The clutch situation still dogs me and I'll just have to pick a time to put her up on jacks for that one. Some small stuff like the speedo reading 4 mph low after installing ratio adapter from Patricks (it was off 17% or 10 mph prior to installing adapter.) I'll be speaking to Phillip today about obtaining a different gear ratio.

Yesterday I came real close to T-boning a mini-van in a parking lot. Some woman came whipping around a corner cutting right in front of me. I stomped the brakes for their first "emergency stop" trial and everything held together fortunately.

Yes, Viejo gets lots of looks, smiles, and thumbs ups. I had forgotten how much these trucks bring out the best in folks; There is definitely some primal connection with it and those passing by.

Last week Viejo was blessed during a small "car" show at a local "LongDoggers" restaurant. Unfortunately the camera chose the worse time to malfunction, although I must admit it is possible that I had something to do with the poor photo quality due the circumstances :p

Don,

I just spent a bunch of time looking over your pictures in your photo album. Awesome! If it isn't too rude to ask, what did you pay for the paint and body work? If it is too rude, just ignore my post.

I especially liked the one comment about the painter that could take the fish eye and hammer tone out of the interior paint.

Don,
Appreciate your time and photos documenting your ride. Having a 4t6 your tally sheet with #'s and cost will quicken a lot of parts chasing. Also would have a case of the shakes taking pictures in some instances grin

Ride lady Ride...uh, I mean ride Don ride!!

Looking good champ and those whites really set it off. I also like the ornament dance
I was at Hoooters this weekend for a cruise-in WITHOUT Victoria. She told me I'd go blind if I "googled" so I only risk one eye. I will be able to see out of it soon as the swelling goes down grin Sooo, no pics for me frown
Don, great ride man.

Edit: say, how did you come by the name viejo?

Awe man, you guys are making me blush. I've got to get a better photo of those teeth to make you all the more jealous. She's a purty thang for sure.

ALVIN You at Hooter's again? Did you see Don there?

Oh - Viejo = me and the truck. Just old but young in mind and spirit in case you can't tell.

Eat your hearts out boys!

Don

Don, you can stop rubbing it in just anytime now. I don't have a choice now. We discussed making the Hooter cruise-in a regular place next year. I figure I need a little something to shine up my truck so you just wait :blat: haha
