Say can anyone tell me what late model chassis will work under the 36 chevy 1/2ton pickup.

None that I know of, your truck is to narrow compared to late model trucks or cars. Your best choice is to up grade the frame you have. There are a lot of venders selling independent front suspensions and disk brakes. The rear axle will be easy to swap out, and motor mounts are easy to come by. There is nothing a newer frame has that can't be adapted to you old one. Its a major job adapting the front sheet metal and cab to a newer frames. Joe

I have seen a few 36' on a 1985 Nissan 4x4 pickup(I think ext cab). You couldn't even tell is was a 4x4. It had all Nissan drive train. It noted that it fit right on with little modifications.
I was going to look more into it for one of my 34's. Mike

If you go the Nissan route, get the frame from a dry, rust free state. The older ones were prone to rusting out. I've condemned at least a half dozen already this year. One was so bad, the box was the only thing holding the rear suspension together. If you get a clean one, they're stout frames with full length boxed rails,

I acquired 89 Nissan Pathfinder from by brother-inlaw. It has more rust holes than my 1934 Chevy trucks. The frame looks ok from what little time have have messed with it. I not have enough time as I would like to spend with the Chevy. Although I did take my two week vacation and drove to South Dakota and will be heading to North Dakota to haul back my grandfather's truck and some more parts on the way home. Did I say I got away ALONE and left my wife, three wonderful children and my bad additude grandmother who is now living and being cared for my wife AT HOME.
Now this is a great vacation!!

I've seen a 36 on a Nissan pickup frame...owner/builder did a great job and his fit and finish is great! However, centering the rear wheels in the bed fenders has the front wheels about 3" too far back. It runs and drives great...even has the Nissan dash sculpted inside. He built it while in Hawaii and has driven it across the US....gets great mileage as it is the 4 banger.....however, when you get a side profile, the misplaced front wheels jump right out at you.

Anyone considering this swap should be really careful about the wheel base!!!!

She will be a beauty when done. As with anything in north dakota I hope the radiator was drained before it was parked or else stuff might have froze. Have fun.
