Another fine mess my PO got me into. When I purchased my truck the windshield was not installed. The PO told me it was new and he had not installed it yet. A few weeks ago I found out why...I doesn't fit. ...I mean not even close.

The edges of the glass that are in the middle of the split pane are about an inch to large to fit into the frame. I know I could buy a new windshield from LMC or the others. (I am hesitant to just modify this one because there may be other ill fitting sections that are not obvious)

I would like to price getting the pieces made locally but since both sides of mine seem to have been made by the same halfwit I do not have a good template. How would I go about making a template. Does the glass fit inside the pinch weld or is it slightly larger.

Would any one who has their windshield out(preferably one that you know fits) be willing to make a paper template and mail it to me?

I would be very grateful for any help.

I would consider calling a windshield installer and seeing if they couldn't just trim the pieces of glass that you have.

Greg, I could do that but I concerned that the glass is not right in other areas that might not be obvious. This could cause leaks if other parts are too small, etc.

rust bucket,around here a lot of people are taking the middle strip out and joining the glass in the middle,this may be what the po had in mind.

Why are folks taking out the center? The center strip can't block much of the view.

BTW: I have my old windshield in my garage if you are still looking for measurements.

The windos seem to fit ok side to side they arw too tall in the middle. If I put the glass on the truck without the gasket and rest the bottom on the window frame by the pinch weld the top is atleast 1 inch past the top of the frame.

Go figure???

I got the template. Thanks very much. I plan to check it out tomorrow against my glass to see if it is slavagable.

I finally got the time to cut the windshield. My neighbor lent me his diamond blade for my 4 inch grinder. I had little hope that I would not crack the glass. Funny thing is the pieces I cut off cracked into a million pieces but the main glass stayed perfect. I ran my belt sander over the areas that were just a little off and smoothed the cut areas and the windshield went right in.

If you cut glass with grinder us water to keep cool.

I am impressed that you cut it yourself and it works well. This is a relatively small city but there is a glass shop in town where the guy still has templates for old glass. Not that you will need it now. but anyone else who might need glass, just inquire of the local glass shop. they may have templates hidden somewhere.
