I was fortunate to come into possesion of a 1950 3800 dump truck.... 'came into possession' meaning that an guy who I worked as a mechanics helper when I was in high school (early 70's time frame) gave it to me. I had been looking for a 1950-ish truck to restore for a couple of years and will pick it up in NM this comming weekend! Expect to take a couple of years to do the job.
It was running when it was parked about 4 years ago. I plan to do an 'upgrade' restore (not sure of the proper terminology) - 350 chevy \ 700r4 \ new suspension front and rear with a bed to replace the dump bed. It is a 5 window and the body is in great shape (no rust).
any words of wisdom?

welcome to the Stovebolt. It sounds like you have a good project on the go. If you look in the Gallery, you will see many old bolts with updated drivelines. Doing a buildup with a son or daughter is something really special in itself. Good for you!

Welcome to the 'Bolt. As long as you save it, "upgrading" is fine in my book. I butcher about every truck I've got.

After looking at the web sites showing off your trucks its nice to see there are others out there who can really appreciate beauty (even Cletis - although he may not have grown out the 'phase' he was going thru in 1964  ). just kidding Cletis... For all you purists out there: I am going to have a complete drive train, suspension & wheels to trade for a bed (long bed I think). I will post the specifics in the proper forum, hopefully in a few weeks. | | |
