I have just fixed the crank mechanism and the window goes open and closed but it leaves air spaces at the lower corners. The strap that connects the two halves together was missing so I made one. I dont think I made it beefy enough.

Can someome give me the dinensions of the original?
How long, how thick, how tall and if you can, the angle its bent at.
Is there only one on the inside?
Top and bottom?

When you say the 2 straps that hold the halves together do you mean V blocks. I had to replace the ones on my 46 as they rust pretty bad from water that gets trapped in there, also there should be a locking mechanism on each side of the window frame. The V blocks are available from any of the Antigue Chev sites and aren't too expensive. Hope this helps, Bob T

V blocks? That explains it. I assumed they were straps. I havnt seen the assembly so I didnt know what should be there.

I dont have the side locking mechanisms either.

If anyone has pictures I would love to see them.

Locking mechanism? I don't have that. Do you have a picture of it? The reason that I ask is 'cause one of the bottom corners doesn't seal right. I think my frame is slightly tweaked at the bottom. I wonder if the lock would hold it closed better. Thanks, john.

Sorry, might have miss lead you, there V brackets and I had to replace my'n as one broke and I was going to fabricate one but realized it was made out of cast steel and machined, I guess thats what keeps them from bending out of shape.

My 42 doesn't have any locks either. I don't think I have ever seen locks on the w/s on the 41-46 chevy.

The '46 we had when I was growing up didn't have any, either.

its been almost 30 years since I owned a 46 but as I remember its like my 37 which means the rubber seal that fits between the windshield frame and the body could be bad...or like my situation the wrong one!!

Hey Steppinwood, You and I have the same problem. Leaking at the bottom corners and no side locks of any kind. I havnt got to the bottom of it yet, but I didnt think these had side locks with the crank in the center. I havnt come across any for sale on ebay either. Lots of other parts for the windshield, but no side locks. Hmmmmm.

The latches are very similar to a houshold window latch. I also forgot to mention this 46 is a Canadian model but I don't think that makes any difference. They lock the windshield closed from the inside. The swivel latch is mounted on the cab windshield post and hooks to the other part mounted on the windshield frame and are made out of brass. If I recall some of the military models had the same thing.

I just looked on Brads site at the cab breakdown.
There are no side brackets.

If you have them, someone added them.

WOW, Side latches??? Can you post some photos, my '41 has no sign of ever having them. Guess Chevy was counting on wind pressure at high speed to hold the windshield closed !!

Seriously I have heard of some of the replacement "V" connectors being on the wrong angle. Not sure what the correct angle is. I had one good one and one FUBAR so I fab'ed one from bar stock and simply copied the angle from the good one. I have not had the truck over 25MPH so am not sure if the windshield is sealed or not.

I would like to see those latches also. My windshield dosen't leak but It would be interesting to see what they look like.

I think the key to sealing the windshield, as others have said, is to get the right angle. When I got my truck the windshield fit perfectly and the PO had put new glass in it, so I left it alone. No need to disturb a good fit.

I had a 42' 1.5 ton military that had side brackets inside. You could lock the window in any position. I have never seen them on civilian trucks.

I saw a 46 fire truck with side "brackets " but the original center crank was removed. It looks like you can put the window out strait.? Both my 46's don't have any latch other than the center crank. :hammering: typing hurts my finger and brain.!
