has anybody heard about a product that is rubber covers running boards?

What did you use on your boards for protection from paint scratches (future)

I used roll-on bedliner, Dupli-Color brand from Auto-Zone. Got the kit that came with a tray and roller along witha quart of the liner. I also did the steps and floor inside the cab.

I tried some of that on my trailer. Didn't last that long. I heard there was a product that was more durable.

I masked off an area and then sprayed rubberized undercoat. It looked good until I got gas on one of them. The good thing is I just wipped off the undercoat and it did no damage to the paint finish.

Take them to a professional spray-in-bedliner shop. That stuff is really tough. Iowa_trucks_59 set his on fire and there was little to no damage from it. I was convinced,

I used the 3M rubberized undercoat on the wheel tubs of my Jeep and painted over the top. 3m's and Napa's is paintable, and that seals it against fuel spills. It held up nicely.

The spray-on stuff is the toughest but you will never get it off if you want to go back to stock.

spray on is much better, i've had better luck with it than roll on, the roll on just wears off quick

Within the next week or so I'll be taking my running boards and fenders to the local Line-X dealer and have the undersides sprayed. This is one of the most durable products I know of and it self-levels to all of the contours. My F-250 bed is sprayed with it and it's fantastic.

I plan on powder coating mine. Has anyone tried this? I have had powder coating on my truck's headache rack that has chipped causing rust to form. The chip was caused from heavy items falling against the rack. I don't know if that would happen to running boards.

Powder coating is reasonably tough, but it will chip due to a sharp impact. It can be repaired, if done immediately, before rust starts underneath. However, most shops will not do repairs.

Now, if I could find a super tough, brushable paint that was flexible, shiny and skid-resistant that won't chip, fade, show wear or come off the metal.

Denny - I'll let you know. The running boards are finish painted on the top but left with etching primer on the bottom. The Line-X shop was talking "less than a 100 bucks" for each fender -- expennnnsive! My wife will surely get a nice piece of new jewelery out of this deal.
