On the top of each helper spring at each end, there is a rubber bumper of some type that is riveted to the spring. Ours are dry rotted and flattened. Does anyone know the correct part name for these and maybe who might have them. Or. what could we use in their place. I hate to paint over the bad ones.

Baxter is a '53 1/2 ton; these are rubber somethings on top of the helper springs. No, not exactly as your link...they have two levels of rubber. But these are a start; thanks!!

This is a worn out '53 half ton.. but this shot shows the helper springs:

helper springs pic... \'53 half ton

So the rubber part you are looking for goes on the top of each end of the helper springs... so that the springs have a stop when it hits the frame rail?

Yes! I don't see the bumpers in your picture, but they would go at each end on the top of the spring--about as big as oreo cookie. (Would go right under what looks like some kind of bracket on the frame at the rear or left side of the picture).

Hmn....
what about this picture?

-W

p.s. you might want to edit the topic in your first post... change it to: '53 1/2 ton - helper springs - rubber things?

The reason to edit topic is... the '50-'53 guys will take notice of this thread... and they will wander in here to try and help.

I bumped around a few of the bigger old chevy truck parts sites and so far I have not stumbled onto this part... the jim carter catalog part of the site was acting up so I didn't get to poke around in there.

I'd like to know what the official part name is... hmn...

Shmoo, they are called "Axel Bumpers" & Classic Parts has them
for about $7.00 EACH & they are easy to install...they insure that
the leafs do not colaps to far into the frame, the protect the leafs especially when you have old & weak leaf springs !
Hope this helps...
