Kicking around some ideas. The auto trans available in the early '60s was the 2spd PowerGlide.
How do I put a Turbo 350 or Turbo 400 into my '62 Chevy truck, and use a stock-style steering column, with the key on the dash?

At one time i had a 58 chevy 3/4 ton with a 396 and 400 turbo. I made my own column shifter.

I used some small diameter round bar with a bend at the top end, welded an arm at the bottom for the shifter linkage rod. It was real fast and simple, although not very pretty. With a little junk yard looking and a Saturday fabricating, a real nice shifter could be made.

My brother did one just like that some years ago. It worked just fine.

Can you go into L1 with it that way? Or are you limited to going into 2nd? I'm wondering, because it'd be nice in some instances to put it in 1st and keep it there.
I've got a stock Auto trans column, but for some reason the gear shift indicator was missing, and there are no mounting holes for it on the collar. It also was missing the shifter linkage rods when I got it.
It WAS an auto trans truck, though: well optioned, had no clutch pedal on the assembly, and the reservoir was blocked off.

I used a column from a 70 C10 in my 63. A little modification was necessary, but not hard,

You don't have to swap columns, you can just swap out the shifter collar for a dummy collar from a 4 speed truck. Brian

This was in there when I bought the truck, but I've been told that it is a 1971 chevy truck steering column... and I have a th350 transmission. I've bought 1971 parts for it and they seem to fit.

Anyway, it is an option.

I have no idea what all you'd have to do to maek it work though.

But there is a picture for ya.
