Hi, I'm new here.

Just aquired a 1947 truck from a farm here in Utah. Paid 700 bucks for it. Dunno what to do just yet so I'm here at the largest site I could find for this sort of thing.

Can anyone tell me exactly what it is? (please don't say "it's a truck")

All I know is that it runs, lights and brakes don't work, the 216 engine is in it and it's a 4 spd with the PTO dump bed in working condition, the interior is all there minus the glove box?

I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and can post more pictures soon. I'm excited about this one.

What I would call it is a 1-ton flatbed dually truck. Probably a model 3600 if it's a GMC.

We could tell you a lot more if you post the VIN.
Until then, it's a truck.

Welcome to the 'Bolt!

That is a neat truck, if you find any numbers on the badges on the sides of the truck, let us know - someone somewhere on here can break it down for you.

Also, you can poke around in the gallery and see other type trucks, that should give you an idea.

With those dual wheels I'm guessing it is at least a 1 ton...

The truck looks to be a 4100, a tonner. You usally but not always see that kind of a wheel on them. Nice short wheel base. Welcome to the bolt, have fun.

Hey..that looks like my 50,,except mines green..and has a longer wheelbase..,,Fix it up,,make $$ hauling stuff for people...and enjoy driving a well-built truck,,thats a bonus for you..

I'm still pretty excited about it and will haul it home tomorrow. Will post some pics then when I know more of what I have gotten myself into.

Excuse me but 3600 is a designation for a ¾-ton Chevrolet. This is a Chevrolet but not a 3600.

Numbers weren't used on the sides in '47 so there won't be any.

Best bet to ID it is the serial number of the cab. I'm guessing it's a 4100, 1½-ton, or a 6100, 2-ton.

Interesting problem here. I went and got out the 47 retro pac that GM sent me. This is what the sheets say.......The rims on this truck belong to a 3800 series, using a 7.00x18 tire. If it were a 4100 or bigger truck, it would have a rim with only 5 cut out holes instead of the 8 in the picture. It would also have a tire size of at least 6.50x20. According to these papers, there are no dual wheeled 3800's offered in 1947. You would have had to gotton a 4100 or bigger for that option. Possibly this truck has had it tires & rims changed, may not really be a 47, or the build sheets are wrong. The 4100 series is listed only as a 1 1/2 ton truck. Another way to tell, would be the emblam on the hood. If it says Thriftmaster on it, it a 3800, if it says Loadmaster its a 1 1/2 ton or bigger. Going back to the rim...its an 8 bolt one, the 5000 and 6000 series trucks used a 10 bolt one.

I would say it's a 3800, 1 ton. My book says that they did produce a dual wheel tonner in 47. Who knows?
