Hey everyone. I'm hunting for insurance right now and having absolutely no luck. Who do you insure your truck with? Any suggestions?

TD bank won’t insure any vehicles that were brought in from the US for some unknown reason.

My truck is strictly a work truck, so I'm trying to avoid insuring it as a classic show truck that’s worth a mint.

Come to Alberta........
just kidding (sort of) I would think you could insure it as a regular vehicle after the out of province inspection , at least you could here , but apparently things are done differently out there , I just heard a little bit on the radio today about Bob Rae (not kidding)

That sounds pretty ridiculous of the insurance company. By the way, the way they got into the business was to buy an existing insurance company, which was called Liberty Mutual. They must of thought the insurance industry was the place to make big bucks. I think Whetter Oakland does both classic and regular insurance. I would give them a call.

Try someone else besides TD. Seems to me the insurance companies would be glad to get your money. I have noproblem insuring my 49 here but there is only one insurance company - the government.

Gecko; The only place to get reasonable insurance for on older truck is Lant & Co. in Stouffville Ontario.
They require an appraisal and photographs.
My insurance cost less than $200.00/year for a 1939 Chev Suburban. There are some restrictions, but not too bad.

that is correct, in Ontario we don't have government insurance. We do have very high insurance rates!

Must be those Toronto drivers spoiling it all for you! Out here my insurance for the truck is $621 per year. My 81 Malibu is $585. The truck is higher because it is a 'commercial' vehicle! We also have Collector insurance and the requirements to get it are pretty tough. They want a better than original vehicle. There are also 'whistle blowers' who call the insurance company and say that your vehicle is not original or has the wrong paint. I had that happen with my 53 when someone didn't like the upholstery and complained. I will give the insurance people credit however as they stuck by me. If you cheat and somehow get that insurance (they require photos) and you have an at-fault accident they can cancel your insurance and leave you holding the bag. Strangely enough there are a bunch of vehicles out here that must have cheated having cracked windows and rust through.

Here in MB we have government insurance, and it seems that it doesn't make things any cheaper. My GEO costs me just under $1000 / year due to the fact that I have not been a MB resident long enough yet to earn my merits. In AB it was costing me about $600. The 46 that we drive costs us arounde $400 though, and it is just listed as a 'pleasure' vehicle. We thought about getting the 3/4 listed as a MB vintage vehicle, but that limits us to driving it only to parades, shows, and to repairs... can't drive it to work.. so we are sticking with regular vehicle insurance.

Gosh, that's cheap. I'm paying $1200/year and must get aircare as it is my only vehicle. Can't get collector plates or vintage. I'm thinking of getting a motorized bicycle as my primary so I can get collector plate for the truck :-)
