The ball goes through the hole, then down the slot. No gadget, the ball is what holds it in.

I'm looking for the part the cable hooks into. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 452 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 452 | Generally, the part (I think Clevis is his name) will be a tall U-shaped piece with a hemishperical pocket at the bottom to seat the swaged ball, and bolt or pin holes at the top. Light duty units will have a slot to put the cable in through the side. Heavier loads require the ball to be swaged after the cable is threaded through the hole (sort of like flaring the brake line with the connector already on)
Check the hardware stores, you may find some the right size.

I'm putting in parking brake rear cables. The ends that connect to the lever where the front cable is attatched to it is not like the origional. Why? costs less to make probably. Anyway I have to hook it up a different way because the cross member was moved and that is where the pivot point is. I had to find a different shaped lever shaped like a boomerang instead of straight..I used a motorcycle shift lever. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | Take a look at the brake levers on just about any bike or motorcycle. That's pretty much the best way. You want positive retention so if the cable slack doesn't get pulled out all the way the ball doesn't fall off the lever.

The ball and cable, then slid thru a disc with a large hole thru one side, and narrowed down to a hole just a little larger than the diameter of the cable.
