I did a search on this and didn't come up with anything. I do remember reading a post about oil around the bolts and behind the bracket that holds the coil to the block. I believe someone stated the coil bracket bolts go into an oil galley. Another comment was made about this leak leading you to believe the side cover was leaking, but it was the coil bracket bolts. This oil runs down the block to the right front corner of the bell housing and makes it's way into the bell housing. There is a threat of oil getting onto the flywheel and clutch - not much, but some! This is a problem! eek

Here's my question: Do the bolts which hold the coil on the block screw into an oil galley and has anyone successfully stopped this "leak"? How did you stop the leak?

As always, Gentlemen, thank you for your consideration and help!

I have heard if those two bolts are out while filling with oil,it will run out the bolt holes.

Your 37 should be the same as my 38. The cover the fasteners go into covers the pushrods & lifters. The oil that lubricates the rocker arms returns to the pan by draining down inside that cover. I don't remember any kind of a seal for those holes. Unless you are getting a lot of leakage I wouldn't worry. You might try snugging the fasteners a little. Show me a stovebolt six that doesn't leak some oil and I'll show you an engine that is out of oil. grin

first clean it real good, put some black RTV on the bolts and tighten them up. Drive it down the interstate at about 75mph for a few minutes, drive it home then take a look after it sits about 15 minutes. Then WE will know.

The bolts actully are threded through to the oil gallery just below the valve cover gasket. If you remove the valve cover and one of these bolts you will be able to see where they come through to the top of the head. To seal them up just use some silicone sealer as described by Achipmunk.

My leak was caused one time by the coil bracket being upside down.It just kept the valvecover just a wee bit up so it was not sealed good.
