For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 204 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 204 | I wanted to powder coat and use the original wheels and hub caps from the panel truck and so far I don't have a good solution for tires. Talked to a local dealer who checked his catalogs and could only find one 17.5X8, it is a bply bias tire. He is not sure of the quality.
Is there a tire answer, if not is there a wheel answer that I could use to put radials on and still use the original hub caps to get the look?
Thanks for the help. My old truck's still running good, my ticker's ticking like they say it should, I got supper in the oven, a good woman's loving, and even my bad days aint that bad...Yeah, I'm a lucky man! 1953 Chevy 3100 Shortbed1965 C-30 Panel Truck 1963 C-20 Long/Fleet Pick-up California Black Plate

I figured out all my tire dimensions. diameter, section width, tread width, and did several searches at the tire sites to come up with the right numbers on a modern tire. This took a lot of time and screwing around.
The story ends with me going to a good local tire place and finding that they have 7:50 x 17 Tornels in stock. They are a larger diameter then what I took off, but look and work great.

I will search the threads, I did earlier but did not see anything on the 17.5. Bought them here, fast shipping: Universal vintage tire If you order with these guys, do it by phone. For some reason the shipping was cheaper than website. Tire Rack shows Yokohama in an 8-17.5 for $136. You might check an RV place. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 204 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 204 | Thanks, I found the Yokohama's on the tire rack. I had some 16" Goodyear passenger radials on previously so the 8 ply is just a little bit harsher. But I aim to correct that some with better shocks. The best thing about 'em is they look cool. I hate radials on old cars and trucks. -David | | |
