I was able to bring home a '57 GMC one-ton (9' box) pickup (missing front sheetmetal and drivetrain, but has a beautiful, almost rust free cab and box) as well as a '59 Chevy 3/4 ton (8' box) pickup. Both trucks are stepsides.
Oh yeah, 2 trucks delivered from 60 miles away for $ 1300.00!
I'm planning on moving the front sheet metal from the '59 onto the '57 (love the quad headlights!)
I finally consider myself a true-blue stovebolter!

Cliff59 | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | photo - you'll find when you do that swap that the threaded mounting holes for the hood hinges on the 57 cab don't quite fit the 59 hinges - oval the hinge holes carefully and you can make it work, but you might have a few problems with the hood fit - also you'll find that the 59 frame is about 1.5-2" longer than the 57, because of that little gravel pan below the 59 grill - will need to make some type of extensions there on the 57 or the stock bumper brackets won't work cuz the bumper won't clear that pan good luck tho, it can work!! Red58; Which holes do not match up? I'm planning on using the '59 Inner and outer fenders with the '57 cab (it's in better shape!). Is it the holes on the firewall? I was under the inpression that all cabs were identical from late '55 to '59!
As far as the gravel pan, etc..... I plan on using this sheet metal on a late model (hopefully a '98 or later dually diesel) chassis and running gear. There will be a bunch of fabrication involved in mounting the cab and bed on the newer frame, a little more won't hurt?

the hood mount holes in the firewall [with cage nuts behind] appear the same all years, but in 58 the hinges underwent a redesign, and in order to get the 58/9 hinges to bolt into those holes on the earlier cab you have to hog out the holes in the hinges, and the earlier hinges won't work w/ the later hood/inners - I haven't measured, but I think they moved those firewall cage nuts a bit in 58 as the firewall stamping changed in a few details in 58
