I'm trying to figure out why the tie-rod end on the driver side is being rubbed by the tire. With the help of red58 I may have found a solution.

I'm still trying to payback the folks for kingpin replacement. I drive my truck every day and the driver door shakes, "We're breakin' up Captain!" so I'm wondering when it will fall off on the highway.

The neighbour and I are planning a trip to north of Seattle for the swap meet for next weekend. Maybe I'll luck-out and get a new driver door.

Gonna pick up a mock up small block to see if it will fit in my '28 chevy sedan. Get a lot of conflicting opinions so I'm gonna try it first!

Made some headway over the weekend. Put the glass back in the doors on the '59 along with new glass run felt, new vent glasses and rubber seals. First door about kicked my butt. The second door took about 45 minutes. Also spent some time fine tuning the alignment between the doors and other body panels and got started installing the clutch.

Put in the "new" radio antenna in my 66 C10 yesterday. Original had snapped off at some point (prior to my ownership). $6 + shipping off ebay smile

Doesn't do much without a radio, but hey, one step at a time, right?

It's always fun to hear what folks did over their weekends. I usually see stuff in other threads.

This one will be for truck-related stuff. This one is for other.

John spent most of yesterday getting his shop back in order. He moved the blasting cabinet a while ago and now he organized that space. Had to pull the '49 frame out but he's got it on a dolly now so it's easier to maneuver.

There was an old car show on Saturday nearby (10 minutes away). He didn't get to "stop by" until about 7 pm (we had company all day). But it was a beautifuly day to have the old '49 out and about.

He probably did other stuff, but he'll have to tell you.

Finished putting my rear leaf springs together. All sanded down flat over past several weeks. Shiny black primer. Leaf spring liner. Tracking down new pins and bushings. CONTRARY to some peoples opinions, the cast iron shackle had bushings in it. Mine where ovaled and I removed them (2 per shackle 7/8" ID x 1" OD x 1 1/8" long... 1/4" gap in center for grease). They had GM stamped on the inside below an 8 inside a star. I doubt anybody but GM would stamp such a thing, and confirms my thought that they are ORIGINAL GM.

Pulled the hubs / drums and backing plates off the rear axle. The axles look good. The bearings look good. The oil seals look good. The inside of the drum is smooth and shiney (i.e. doesn't need to be turned). The brake shoes look pretty good, but I'll get them relined anyway, as they are off and it's not too inconvenient. Cylinder outer seals look bad, so will rebuild them. Rest of the brake internals look good.

I wire brushed off the housing around the hubs and primered it.

Brake lines are bad. Need to get some new ones.

My current challenge is to install autoloc bear claw door latches on the 54. This is proving to be no small feat in that I want to retain the pushbutton handles and have a locking mechanism all without using electric gizmos.

I am close to the final solution and will document it for the benefit of others once I get it all figured out and fabricated.

I got a good start on ripping out the wiring a buddy just had installed at a shop to re-do it right! an 18 circuit generic "Painless" kit all installed where about 8 circuits will do, with all the excess stuffed in corners all over and everything routed improperly frown should come together pretty good tho - buddy finally understands ya can't just hand a resto job to a wrench w/ no interest in the vehicle!

enjoyable working on something that's all clean and new grin

I'm in the process of building a 261 for my truck.I am going to put a t-5 transmission in it.I am going to use a 12 bolt rearend out of my old camaro. This is where my delimma starts.I have been searching for six lug axels that will fit the 1967-1969 camaro rearend. There are no known six lug 30 spline axels thatwill work.So i called mosher engineering last week.I explained that i needed a six lug pattern on a 1967 camaro axel.No problem, they built them for me.I paid $235.00 for the pair.So i'm glad i did'nt have to purchase new aluminum wheels in a 5 lug pattern.I recieved them in four days.I took a couple of pictures of the axels, see the links.

I took a wire wheel to all of those little one inch wide metal strips that hold down all the interior parts, stripped the dash board, cleaned up the interior sheet metal parts and prepped them all for primer. Wednesday looks like a primer day for me!

Got the rebuilt rearend (3:38 gearing) back underneath and bolted up to the previously rebuilt springs this weekend. Got the drums turned at the local shop and put the rear brakes on. Bled the brakes all around, and for the first time, have a decent amount of pedal.

Still have some minor electrical work to do (turn signals), have to replace the side windows and reset the toe-in as the front end was completely rebuilt previously. May have "The Beast" back on the road by the end of the month if the creek don't rise.

Finally got started on the panel. Got the front fenders, grille, and all the supports/brackets off. Left the hood on it to shelter the rebuilt front axle etc and the old 216 until I decide what I'm going to do with it. Did get some small stuff bead blasted and primed like the cowl to fender braces, headlight "buckets" and few other things. Nice to have an entire day in the shop with a lot of cold Pepsi and Johnny/Willie and the Platters on the c/d player. What a life.

I finally found a 0-30 ohm universal fuel sending unit for the home-made under-bed tank in my '56. Ordered it from Yogi's today.

I placed an overhood light in my garage so that I can see to work on the 235 grin

I then replaced the speedometer and the fuel guage in the Plymouth.

I played golf on Friday night..9 and Dine! Played another 9 on Saturday at a different course and then drove to a third course for nachos and beer. Didn't do much else after that. Didn't get anything accomplished on Sunday other than heading off to work for the evening. smile

Let's see...

This is for the last few weekends, because I can't remember when I did what.

1) Took 3 speedometers and made one good one out of it.

2) Ascertained that the problem with the speedometer was in the transmission.

3) Completed all of the wiring on the parking, directional, brake, and tail lights

4) Managed to NOT burn my thumb on a soldering iron.

5) Changed the Fuel Filter Element.

6) Went for a test drive. Neighbor Lady and I pushed it back to my house. Looks like I've got some work to do. grin

7) Changed Gearbox Grease in transmission.

8) Installed Tachometer to Compansate for lack of Speedometer.

9) Pulled the floorboards out a few times.

10) Fixed wiring for fan only to find that old switch is faulty.

11) Removed old brittle wiring from run to the rear of the truck.

That's about it.

Okay, it's Monday and you're suppose to be working. But on your lunchbreak :p , tell us what you did over the weekend.

John got in from his trip about 6 pm on Friday. We spent most of Saturday and Sunday outdoors. John power-washed the front and back of the house, plus the gutters. Then we started on the grass ... mow, mow, mow. Then the belt broke on his mower, so he switch to the trees. He got all the pines sheered (had to fix the trimmer first), too. It seemed like it was going to be one of those Saturdays when everything you touch breaks.

But it wasn't. Turned out to be a very productive weekend.

Plus the temps finally broke so it's not nearly as hot now. This morning it was 60. N i i i i c e!!

Wrapped up the bear claw installation on the 54. Have plenty of pics to document the "operation" which appears to be a success. Now it is on to rebulding the door/window mechanisms. Will the fun ever stop?

I drove The Ox to the Barbershop, bought some ice cream and a new battery.... not sure which of the 3 dead/dying batteries i'll replace yet tho...

It was too hot to work outside or in the garage this weekend... I did manage to move 3 yards of dirt out of a "new" flower garden before it hit 100f yesterday.

I had to go to a wedding, but also had an opportunity to work on the truck. I tore into the rear end and found the gears to be in good shape, but the drums will have to be replaced. The brake shoes have worn large grooves into the drums. I also got behind the wheel of the 1959 2-ton grain truck and drove it around the farm just to remember what it feels like to drive an old truck.

We're getting ready to remodel showers in two bathrooms, so I painted the walls in preparation.

Sounds like backwards, but the plan is forward thinking.

I looks like my mom. who is 92, may come to live with us. She is sharp as the best knife in the drawer, only takes 1/4 of an asprin for the occasional headache, and still drives.

The thing is, she doesn't need to be doing that, and Irma and I can help--make sure she eats properly (she doesn't because it is too much trouble to fix for one person at her age), see to it that she doesn't sit around the house, and let her enjoy the time instead of having to manage a house, get the yard cut and cleaned, fix the fence when it falls down, buy a new water heater, pay the bills and all the rest of the stuff one has to do to maintain the "pride of ownership."

So, take out the bathtub and build a step-in shower. That's fairly easy today with the modular shower stuff available at the Depot or Lowes. Just costs a few more bucks to have a plumber do it right in a week than have me tear it all out and spend 2 years trying to put it back. The plumber guy says the painting worn't get mussed up during tear out and replacement more than can be repainted, so lets do it!

Anyway, the manager of this house has authorized the expenditure, so who am I to complain!

I still had to make a trip to the fix-it store in the '46 for paint, tape, a roller, and assorted stuff, so I've had enough fun to offset the painting job.

Drivin' down a 2 lane country road in a stovebolt.....cowboy, it don't get no better than this!

I worked on replacing the part that supports the toe board. I could not order a replacement so I tried to rebuild what I had. Here is a link to a couple of bad pictures, if you have a modem it may load slow. The welds are ugly but will be ground smooth, I still have alittle bit of cleanup to do before installing but I am pleased with the results.

I pull apart the left rear side too, and today i just painted and get them ready to be back together, hopefully today later (my wife wants me to go somewhere, i took a vacation day today).

This is really exciting!

I was disappointed in the aquarium but they still got my 50 bucks.... 40 for two senior tickets and 10 to park!! My last trip there!!!! But now its back to the shop and the panel....its in pitiful shape...makes me want to crrryyyy!!

Not much work on my truck (BillyBob) but I did manage to get my Jeep's bellhousing/tranny/transfer case assembly mated back up to the engine and bolted in. Took about a hour but I had alloted much more grunting and cussing time to this task. Sometimes even a blind pig gets an acorn.

That's the good news. The bad news is that I found out that one of the rear suspension trailing arms in my Concorde (BettyLou) had completely rusted out and there was about two inches missing from the middle. Only thing keeping the two remaining pieces from dropping is the brake line clamped to them!

I drive like a old man but I'm surprised I haven't noticed any handling problems. I ordered a new trailing arm and it looks like I'll be cutting rust on the Concorde is in my near future.

I pulled all the wheels off the Green Machine and painted the brake drums primer grey. It really dressed up behind the wheels a little and makes a difference. I also found time to give it a bath and i had to hose myself off also to beat the heat.

Finished moving out of my old apartment into a town house with a garage on Saturday. Stayed home and watched a movie Saturday night. Sunday I pulled in the '52 and dropped the three speed and made all the modifications to the T-5 that is going to replace it. After that went to "church" and got to stay late playing music with a bunch of friends because I did not have to work until 11 this morning.

Well on Friday the ROTARY lift subcontractor installed my 3 lifts, 2 in my new shop (32 x 30 Morton Building)and a 4 post in the garage attached to the house. On Saturday I wired the lifts and moved my "babies" to their new home, the '55 and '69 Pontiac are sitting on a 4 post stacker, the '41 Chevy dump resides in the bay with the 2 post lift and the misses car resides in the garge next to the house.
The TP tools 960 blast cabinet is on the way. On Sunday I moved more tools into the new shop. I am very happy with my epoxy coated floor (used the brand from Home Depot).
Now my wife is afraid she will never see me.........and her point is!!!!!!!!!!!!
will post pics soon
