ph32,

are you still in Korea?

I am not near the expert that others are on here...but my 46 is my second art deco..my first one was too much for me. If I could turn back the clock,I would have spent more money on a better truck up front. My second one, I did just that.

With that said, what do you want for a final product?

You are looking at $15-1800 for a box unless you do a flatbed.( I did not see a box)

$250 per door unless you can do a re-skin yourself. My desert door was $150 plus 100 for shipping.

$150 for wiring harness.

$400 for tires.

There is a pile of money you will spend on other parts regardless of what you buy. I just spent$300 on do-dads for the firewall like grommets, hood corners, fender gaskets, etc etc.

Your truck is not hopeless by a long shot, but wow...as you say, there is a lot of work to do!

Have you thought about another 46 for parts and make one good one out of two? Another $2000 truck might give you an easier platform to start with....you have some great parts.

Do you own or have access to a mig welder?

If only you were near Mn, I know of a rolling chassis you could buy that would put you on your way to a finished truck real quick like!

You've got a lot of work there, your caption on the frame says it's no good, looks to me like a little sand blasting would probably bring it up to like new. My 46 wasn't quite as bad put yours looks restorable. Good luck and keep us up to date on progress. Bob T

Wow... an intact 216. Even has the 6-volt generator! Definitely keep that!

As 46 noted, finding an original bed won't be cheap or easy. The flatbed is a great idea. I've seen a number of Art Deco-era pickups sporting a flattie or stakebed. I'd say a nice oak bed with matching oak stakes and flats (stained and varnished, of course) would look absolutely breathtaking with a nice, deep coat of bright yellow paint! Polished stainless hardware, of course.

I'd go with reproduction steel wheels and hubcaps too. I know they're out there.

Looks like everything else is pretty straight and, aside from some surface rust, solid. Except the buckshot in the cab. Why would anyone do that???

Brother\'s Trucks
Dixie Truck Works

Try those guys out. Brother's doesn't specialize in your year, but they do have some pretty cool stuff and their staff is awesome. I've used 'em extensively for getting my '66 GMC back on the road.

If a 'truck' is only used to haul butts to the mall, then it's not a truck - it's a car with a roadster trunk.

Old, rusty and ugly - might be me or my fleet. You decide!

on the back window, it looks like a lefthand shooter jerking the trigger. lots of work but it should keep you off the streets for a while.

Thanks-i plan on takin my time. Hot rod direction. Yes i am still in Korea, goin back in a week, then a year from now we will return here for good. Truck is in a storage bay right now. The bullet holes are probably from a farmers fild target practice. Later i guess someone tried to fix it but found it to be too much.. I will keep yall posted on her. Flatbed definately! I think oak or walnut. maybe metal but i doubt that.I will talk too ya soon.

Oh the 216 is dead right now..

Anything is repairable depending on how much you want to spend. Have a plan and go for it. You have a great starting point. Maybe go rat rod with it and leave the bullet holes. Real ones look better than those sticker ones.

How about this; rat rod-yellow primer with red oxide flames/scallops-oak flatbed-and an Olds Rocket or Buick Nailhead with fenderwell headers.

Hm... dead 216.

Might I suggest a Fenton, Sanderson, Clifford, or Offenhouser-equipped 302 GMC?

How about the aforementioned flatbed,a set of front hubs from a 1 ton,a later rear with 3.73 gears, budd wheels(alloys if you can swing it),a Saginaw 4 speed with an overdrive installed, and a built 302 GMC six. Maybe twin stacks. It'd be cool, useful, fun and you would never see another truck like yours. That's how I'd do it...

I agree with Kruizeag, it would be interesting to leave the bullet holes. Maybe after painting they could be filled in (leave them deep) with black silicone, to keep the weather out.

Keep us informed on any progress.

Nice pattern for a BB gun smile What is wrong with the frame? Is the bottom part of the channel rusted away somewhere? I love the shot of the grill, that is going to look proud someday! Good luck!

I think that patterns from a 22 short, frame has holes rusted through it... would have to be braised and i dont consider that safe...
