PPG ST1202 is the correct color and sheen as a replacement, and Eastwood sells it also.

This is a common color available to a powdercoating company.
Frames were not painted from the factory. You can paint it whatever color suits you. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | I used John Deere black, it is very durable, brian | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | Originally posted by Vaughn:

Mine is a lovely mixture of red clay, rust, and oil/grease in places. If I were to do a full frame-off resto, I would probably paint it black as others have also suggested.

We use it all the time as a finish coat with great results. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 181 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 181 | The only part of my 65's frame that had paint was the cross members at the rear and trans. It did have undercoating on the front around the wheel wells. I am not restoring mine, so I am painting the frame Rustoleum satin black. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 13 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 13 | GM used a very thin coat of black dipping paint Primer and finish coat all in one for most chassis. It was mostly solvent that evaporated in the environmentally unconcious era.
