I installed the LMC electric fan in front of my radiator and do not have a fan on the water pump. For the past 3 days, the temperature here has been mid to high 90s. I have been driving the truck around town pulling a 700 pound Teardrop Trailer and the temp has not gotten above 185 degrees. For those that are wanting to use the fan...I highly recommend it.

I would add an overflow container too. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 145 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 145 | Originally posted by Gazim: I got mine from a salvage yard for 15 bucks with the same results. Ran both mechanical and electrical pusher on the 72. Summers here in Vaginny get REALLY hot and humid. I could watch the VDO temp gauge start climbing while I was in bumper to bumper traffic. The Hotronics thermostatic switch would kick in the electric pusher fan and the change was dramatic you could watch the temp gauge drop back really quickly. I will run both on my 52 as well. When not operating the electric pusher will free wheel so even when its off and the truck is moving it moves air. I got the pusher fans for my 72 from a foreign car parts recycler it was a dual motor/dual fan unit from a wrecked Jaguar, man it would cool that 468 big block in a hurry.

The amperage can be quite high, typically 25-30 Amps on fan start up and 18-20 on constant run,for a large single pusher or puller fan. However, most installation kits, Painless Wiring, American Autowire, Dakota Digital, etc. etc. all provide a relay with wiring instructions, to reduce the amperage draw.

Thanks. I have a space issue with the fan and radiator even though I have the short shaft pump. Haven't decided what the right fix is, but I have been thinking of not running a fan on the water pump and replacing it with a pusher fan in front. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 58 Member | | Member Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 58 | Bill: Have the same problem with my 52 3/4 ton. The problem with the 261, with the short shaft pump was the fan blade wouldn't clear then engine damper. Then when you move the fan forward with a spacer, to clear the damper,it hit the radiator. Its been a real FUN exercise!!! I've decided to move the radiator forward in the core support for extra clearance. YES!,its a lot of work. The easy fix is to go with the front mounted pusher, either new aftermarket or junk yard dog. The electrics don't run constantly, only on temperature demand. Some kits will actually work off the temperature gauge sender so you don't have to mess around with where you're going to put the sensor/switch.

Then a 14" puller on the radiator on a relay on a temp sensor on the block. This works great my temp stays around 180. Also have the radiator for the conversion to the 350 sb. | | |
