Just how rare are the 64 shortbox big window trucks? If you had a good truck of this year(64) what would you do with it. i mean would you rod it,restore it, or a combination of both. I am not sure what direction I want to go in and would like some ideas from some people who have been there. I do know I want the gas tank out of the cab, the stake pockets filled in, and I want to lower but not slam it. I know also that I really would like the body to appear pretty much stock. Seriously though I would like to hear some other peoples ideas.

Well. . . I would say it depends on what really gets you going the most. Is it the hot rod that drives by, and accelerates and makes you deaf, or do you appreciate more seeing a gorgeous restored truck?

Also, this is purely based on opinion, but the truck that you have seems aesthetically to lend itself to hot rodding as opposed to restoration. I would choose an earlier generation truck if you were looking for a really nice restoration project. The 64 models just look mean (I have a 65). Make sure and let us know what you decide!

Personally, I'd do a little bit of both. I have a 66 shortbed stepside, but i have the little back window. Go to a local car club, cruise-in, or show and see what other people have done to get some ideas. I'm planning on dropping mine 2" front and rear and leaving the exterior stock. Its just a matter of your own preferences, but make sure to keep us posted on your progress!

I have a 64 C10 longbed fleetside with small window. I bought it as a rustbucket and after some work, it's my daily driver "rat rod" truck. I kept the 292 I6 motor and SM420 4-speed, but added a Carter 4-barrel carb, split headers and glasspacks. It's painted suede black with Moon Disc wheel covers (original 60's items.) I cut 2 coils outta the front springs, which is really too much and it rides kinda rough. But I like it. You can see what I've done with it starting on this web page and following thru the successive pages. Eventually I'll upgrade the front suspension to disk brakes and power steering, but it's ok the way it is for right now.

See that is the problem. I do not want what everyone else has. I want my truck to stand out from the rest. The one thing I can not stand is a vehicle of any kind that looks the same as a lot of other vehicles. I do not want my pick up to look the rest around town. Wait there are no other old classic trucks around here. I really am leaning towards rodding the truck. I really want to keep the stock look though. I am thinking a sleeper truck would be really cool. Imagine a sleeper 64 blowing the doors of of the little imports around here.
The truck really is not in that bad a shape. The worst part is the bed sides. The rest of the truck has the usual surface rust but other than that it is realativly rust free. I brought it to Michigan when we moved out here, it came from California. The truck has never been driven during a Michigan winter and it never will be either.Right now the truck is set up for a 350cid and a th350 trans. I think I will stick with that combination unless a decent 454 presents itself.
I am truly amazed at the amount of replacement and after market stuff that is available for these truck. Other that time and MONEY this truck should be easy to get fixed up. Ahhh, the famous last words.
