I have a 1953 1 ton flat deck chev.

I am trying to put the parking brake back together - the cement block behind the wheel is getting to be a pain.

I found new cables, and some other parts at Jim Carter. Still missing the strut (spreader bar?) and the pivot arm??? for each side.

Any ideas on where to look for these parts, or a substitute that might work?

Do you have a 53 first series or a 53 second series?

The first series uses Huck Style brakes. The best source for these is a junkyard. AFAIK, nobody makes emergency brake shoe hardware for anyhting bigger than a 1/2 ton anymore. (which really grates my cheese, because I've got a '46 3/4 ton with the same issue).

53 second series has Bendix (AFAIK) and you may (or may not) be able to find that hardware at the various vendors. Have you looked at American Classic and The Parts Supplier Formerly Known As Chevy Duty?

He has a bar and a pivot BrendanM. That would tell you which era it was.

I wouldn't know where to get one unless you already had one to match too. May have to go to a parts store and start fitting kits to your shoes until something works,
