hey guys.

my project is starting to drag me down a bit..like. getting kinda depressed about it and junk.

with gas prices going up. and all that jazz...what can i do so i don't lose all hope with it?? i mean, granted. the fact that all i'm doing right now is body work isn't helping. but...any ideas?

i just want to get her on the road. or atleast back together so i can enjoy the darn pickup.

Just keep going It is going to get better,I have been working on my 51 for two years and I am just now putting her back together,Once you get near the end all of the hard work and bad luck will be forgotten,Go to a car show or look at some of the great trucks in the gallery and keep your own vision going. Good Luck

I got my '51 chevy 1300 in January .I've been freezing my but off since getting her road worthy.I asked and got lotsa help from this site and from a few friends and my wife just finished the upolstry. I took out a one day insurance testing permit 2 days ago ,couldn't sleep, got up at 5:30 am and fired her up and drove to the Shell for gas.I didn't know what to expect from the 216 and the 4 speed.I sure got the looks ,
the smiles ,and the biggest reward was the fact that this baby is mine and I'm driving it!
My body work has a way to go but the mechanics are the most important things for me.This is going to be a TRUCK! Don't dispair it's well worth it.If you are worried about gas prices
try living in Canada - we are really getting hosed.

I have just spent 2 years working on my daughter's 65 Mustang (Heaven forbid), wondering when we would ever get it up and running. I decided to at least get it mechanically running. It needs a new hood and paint job really bad but if the daughter is willing to drive it "as is" with it's cosmetic imperfections, then maybe you can do the same.......

At this point, I don't know when she'll be ready to turn her car over to me for a paint job for she is having so much fun driving "Red" "As Is". For the past 4 weeks, she's been driving Red every night coming home with a smile on her face. Maybe you need to do the same.

In otherwords, get it running and drive it for awhile. Take a break. Enjoy it. Later you can always take the next step.

I stumbled on a post of yours the other day and it made me wonder how you were coming along with the stang... neat.

If you can ever drive it and get it dependable, no matter how beat up it is, it'll be a blast. Just look at my truck... (signature line below)... hah!

If it runs and stops, and everything is street legal (lights, wipers, horn, et cetera), then slap that baby back together and drive it!

It doesn't have to be perfect! It just has to be safe.

Sweet 'stang. I've always wanted one.

Do sthe mechanical stuff first, get it safe and running, then you can enjoy it while you do the body work.

Sometimes projects are like that- You are enthusiastic at the beginning and then overwhelmed with the mangnitude of what is left to do once you get a feeling for how long things really take.

Make a list of everything that has to get done, organize and priortize your list. And then set realistic goals you can easily accomplish. For example based on how much time you can realistically dedicate to the truck each week. Then when you exceed your goals you'll get your enthusiasm back!

Saturday I fired up the engine and now I can't wait to get to the next step, and there's tons to go! Now I come home from work thinking about what I can get done today so that I can finally hang the sheet metal on it, get it inspected and drive it!

thanks for all the advice guys. it means alot to me just to get replies, even more so ones that are helping me along.

so far, i'm just sectioning the body work along in pieces, so it doesn't appear to be so over whelming. its worked so far. its getting close to just welding a few minor things, bondoing where needed, priming, painting, and putting it back together.

plus, with a lovely venture into brake lines, fixing a leaf spring shackle, and routing an exhaust, along with replacing some glass...

Sorry about the "IS IT EVER GOING TO FINISH" feeling! To add a little perspective to your situation think about all the work you've done already....how far its come alone since the first week you brought your truck home. Then think about the day you paid for it and how good it felt to know its finally all yours! That feeling that you can being to create the truck you've been dreaming about. Now......What if you never had it?
You've come a long way havent you? As hard as it can be to believe sometimes, and as much as it really can just F-ing SUCK...it really is the journey that you will charish when your done! Take a break if you need it...slap it together and drive it for a while but dont give up the hope!
I've had my truck for about a year now yet its still in the barn where I found it because i cant afford to bring it home just yet. Life....it happens, but it does continue and the good will come! Until the day I can throw the traditional mexican blanket on the seat and get some new whitewall tires on her, I'll continue to flip every page of the manual and catalog I have dreaming of the day!
In fact i just got a new LMC catalog in the mail yesterday, I got some reading to do!
Its good to know you can come to this site for just about everything!
