the race on the axle spins,,, what should i do?
ping the axle to make it snug?

It should slide on with your hand, not be driven on. If your antsy about it use some "bearing lock" by Locktite or others. You will have to warm it to get it back off but not heat it enough to discolor it.

If you were replacing them I would hope and suggest that you are going to tappered roller bearings. The bearing should slide right over the axle.
