He told me it isn't a mechanical switch, but hydraulically actuated switch on the master cylinder. Did Chevrolet ever use a switch like this..I have NEVER heard of it?

Most all had 1/8" NPT threads but a few had 1/4". Just get one with the same threads and screw it in. He may have to put the wire terminals on that fit the switch if differant from the present one.

A switch is a switch is a switch and in most cases doesn't care what the voltage is. I've seen many "12volt" switches have 120v or 240v capacities stamped on them. The brakelight switch on my 38 looks exactly like the one pictured in the middle here: http://www.chevsofthe40s.com/search.lasso?&dept=truck&cat=180T&skip=140&Max=20 Scroll to the bottom of the page. It does show a mechanical switch on the right for later models though.

Most parts houses carry them or can get them. Just need to know the size of your brake lines,
