It has a new 3 speed transmission (4k miles old), and the body is in good shape. It does have rust damage, because the previous owner decided to be brilliant and paint over existing rust spots. As nearly as I can determine, all the other parts of the truck are stock, except for an edelbrock 4 barrel carb, and edelbrock heads. The buyer is selling for $1200. I would think if the drive train is what you've been told, that alone would be worth a pretty good chunk of the $1,200 asking price.

What about the rest of the running gear (steering, brakes, electrical, suspension)?
If it's all in decent shape and the only thing the truck needs is some bodywork, then it sounds like a fine project base to me, the non-expert.
