I've seen it all now..... This weekend I caught two Pimp My Ride shows. Not sure how many true blue Bolters watch such a show. One was a 1957 Chevy 3800 Panel truck. The other was a 1987 Chevy 1500 Pickup. I won't tell you what they did to them...........

I loathe Pimp My Ride. I watch it only to laugh at the ridiculous abominations they create.

I have to admit that as a general rule, WCC does quality work. They have some very creative individuals in their shop, especially in the paint and graphics dept.
However most of their business is high-end stereos and body kits and the like so that rap stars can bling-out their H2. Bleah.

Although I did see a recent Overhaulin' where they enlisted the aid of West Coast Customs for a project car. There were many references to how the target car was NOT being pimped whatsoever. It was funny, and the work was top-notch.

Let me guess.
They bolted on a TV Wall and 20000 watt dolby surround equipment on the truck bed, a fish tank in the dashboard and a lava lamp is hanging on the mirror. Than they painted it chicken sh..t metal candy flake right?

Oh not to mention those 25" chrome wheels they use on every car - how creativ.

Pimp My Ride is a show full of hacks. They might do good work when they are WCC, but when the camera rolls they are complete clownshoes. The crap that they turn out is worthless. If I won a "Pimped" ride I would part it out and sell all the crap they put on it. They put quite a bit of cash into the stereos etc. and if you sold it all you could make enough money to build a nice car.

I watched only once and lost interest after they tried to make a Ford Escort look like a BMW 3 series. They grafted a 3 series front onto the Escort and tried to make it look European. After they were done, it's still a piece of junk Escort.

As a rule I don't watch Pimp either but I did see the 57 Panel. I think a young woman owned it. They definitely changed it....TV wall, mural ceiling, Roman couch. The paint and graphics were cool and the modern mechanical updates were OK too. But she'll never haul another sheet of plywood back there again....
I use to watch all of the TV car shows; Rides, Overhaulin', Jesse James, American HotRod, Power Block, Trucks, etc. But I got burned out from all the high dollar rides, corporate sponsors and dream garages that a middle-class working guy with family, mortgage, and bills like me will never have.

I used to spend some time watching those shows as well. I only caught parts of "Pimp" a couple times and wish I hadn't. In any case, it suddenly dawned on me one day that instead of watching these clowns hack up cars with the added bonus of the scripted drama I could spend my time more wisely. I now spend a few extra hours a week in the garage working on my stuff.

Seriously, I can't count how many times the following scenario played out...the engine wouldn't fire at two minutes to deadline, when the team suddenly realizes that the distributor is 180* out (monster garage referenec here).

Turn off the TV and get to work!!

ive not watched tv in a long time, because there seems to be a lack of anything worth taking up my time. but i used to watch a show i could relate to,because of the demolition derby cars i build. it was JUNKYARD WARS. way cool show, even though they had the things needed in the yard to make what they needed. looked preplanned, but i still like watching them do it. and some even failed, just like in real life. not like the other shows that seem to always live happly ever after. :rolleyes:

Just as Demo Man I too watch very little TV. I turn on the oldies and work on my truck. Then when I come in I realize I haven't missed anything! I can't watch those programs you guys talk about. I don't watch TV much so I don't have cable/dish. I only have welfare TV...which is a set of Rabbit Ears.....oh, maybe its not welfare TV...folk on welfare somehow have the money for a dish!!! Don't WATCH it happen, MAKE it happen.

I agree with most of the statements here. The show is meant to be pure funky entertainment.

If you watch closely and look beyond the funk, you will see some excellent talent. They can do anything and everything from simple acrylic fabrication to robotics to CNC seat stitching.

If you want a treat, visit West Coast Customs web site. Pimp my Ride is just another money making division of this outfit...this program is on because most of the viewing audience is brain dead. The fellows doing the work have the talent.

Fort Knox i think the same thing if a vehicle of mine would ever get on pimp my ride i would just part all the stuff out and get rid of all that crap they just put way to much stuff in the vehicles besides those people would cause an accident if they would fiddle with all the stuff anyways when they're driving i just think it would be funny to be on the show because most people scream and say "OH MY GOD!!!!" well if it was me i'd be all like "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO?!?!?!?!"

I agree with Arnswine, though. The stuff that they pull off takes some serious rodding FOO.
