i have a pertonix unit installed in my distributor. would a MSN spark enhancer be of value on it or even work? ron

Page 39 of the MSD Ignition Wiring Diagrams and Tech Notes book shows how to do it. You can use a MSD 6 box with a Pertronix kit in the following manner:

THE THIN BLACK WIRE FROM THE MSD BOX GOES TO THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE COIL

THE ORANGE WIRE GOES TO THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE COIL.

THE MAGNETIC PICKUP IS NOT USED.

THE HEAVY BLACK WIRE GOES TO THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE BATTERY.

THE HEAVY RED WIRE GOES TO THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE BATTERY.

THE WHITE WIRE FROM THE MSD BOX IS CONNECTED TO THE BLACK WIRE FROM THE PERTRONIX KIT IN THE DISTRIBUTOR.

THE THIN RED WIRE FROM THE MSD BOX IS TAPPED INTO THE RED WIRE THAT GOES BETWEEN THE PERTRONIX KIT TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. BY TAPPED, I MEAN NOT SPLICED, JUST A "T" CONNECTION. THE DISTRIBUTOR TO IGNITION SWITCH CIRCUIT REMAINS INTACT.

It won't make any difference on a stock engine.A multispark ignition might help mask carb problems at part throttle,but it won't add power.On hi compression engines running lean mixtures, nitrous or supercharging,the MSD boxes are a benifit.

I have a 1956 235 with a stock distributor in my 1950 bolt. My MSD box makes it start faster, and run smoother. I have no experience with Pertronix, but MSD is worth the money.

3100,my experience is different,I noticed no difference between properly adjusted points in a distributor with no worn parts and when I added a MSD 6A multi spark system.
Every situation is different,a real world test like we have done is the only way of knowing if it's works.
I found the MSD ignition ate up the spark plugs pretty fast, have you noticed that?

Fasty, I gapped the plugs out to 55 thousands, out of a MSD maximum recommendation of 60 thousands. So far no problems. I also have to report that I have only out on a little over 300 miles since I installed the MSD box.

I also have installed Magnecor wires to handle the increased spark load. They went in pre-MSD, and were also a big improvement over regular spark plug wires.

It fires up faster, and runs smoother.

BTW, my coil is the 45,000 volt yellow Accel model. It works, but if I had to do it all over again, I would have used an MSD coil as well.

Not to downgrade all those high end, expensive, ignition goodies, I've beent running all stock and original parts in my 62 '235 and it tends to start faster and run as smooth or more so than my "new" vehicles. Therefore, I'm sticking with stock ignition as I add my exhaust goodies.
