Does anyone know how to get the windshield wiper motor out of my ‘41? I have the blade and arm off. I also have the inside cover and the entire header cover off.
My problem is I can’t see how to get the large (1/2” diameter) lug off on the outside. I’m sure it must come off before I can unscrew the chrome nut and push the shaft through to the inside of the cab. It appears that there is a very small (about 1/8” diameter splined shaft coming through the body from the wiper motor which is somehow engaged into the ½” diameter lug. Maybe I just need to pry the lug off of the small 1/8 spline but I’m sorta afraid of braking it if there is something else holding it on. You can push it out either way as it is a straight pin. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 170 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 170 | I just removed the wiper motor from my '40 last week. I just unscrewed the nut and the motor came right out. Its a Fickens getting rebuilt noew.
Steve | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 | Thanks for the info. Now that I have it all apart and cleaned up I can see the small pin. The ½” lug was so chewed up by rust and probably more than a few arm replacements I did not see the pin before.
I got it apart by splitting a few ¼” flat washers and placing them between the chrome retaining nut and the lug. I then gingerly backed off the nut and it pushed the lug and its brass insert off of the 1/8” splined shaft. | | |
