theres a new old man in town, with a new old truck. im new here and im old (49) and have a new old truck. so i had to say hi and introduce myself. im kevin, and just got a 1948 GMC 1 ton flatbed. this is my first G M product that ive owned that is more then 20 years old. ill share some pics of the truck when i get the site figured out. but for now, its time for an old dog to learn a few new tricks. so off to look around....and by the way. the truck is 100% stock all the way down to the turn signal arm on the cab, which is way cool. and its rust free except for a bit of serface rust. hope to meet and talk to a few of you in time. until then, take care all.......kevin

Since you have a GMC, and a one ton at that, you should check out this Gmc site and sign up on their discussion forum. They have a lot of gmc people that can help you. Some are here too, me included, but the other site has more gmc stuff. Your more than welcome to be here too, doesn't cost a penny at either place.
Also, you can't come in here and claim to be the old man. Me and a few others already have you beat on that one. Cecil..........

Hey demo man! Welcome to the Stovebolt Page. You'll find lots of great info and lots of great folks here to help you out with your truck. Where in Hayward are you? We lived on Broadmore Ave. down by the police station off of Santa Clara for about 6 years. It's changed alot since we moved out of there in '94. Again, welcome! And let's see some pictures of that truck!

Welcome aboard, Kevin! And congrats on the new truck!

Good idea about wandering around the site -- use the menu bar at the top of the page and be sure to check out the Gallery, Tech Tips, Links and all of it. And when you're ready to start talking trucks, c'mon back in here and fire away -- that's what we're here for.

And don't wait until you're done to send us a picture and write up for ther Gallery -- we like in-progress and unrestored trucks!

You can send the picture and description to Peggy at [email protected] and she'll get you in the Gallery.

Regards and welcome,
John

Welcome aboard Kevin and you're gonna love this place. Great folks with a few wackos thrown in to keep it interesting. Great thing is you couldn't pay for the knowledge and experience you'll find here. The longer you have your old Jimmy the more you'll appreciate it and discover at times the oldies can and will out do the newer models so prevalent on the roads today. As 51 says, at 49 you are still a pup to some of us but then you'll be Gramps to some others. Get ready to ride and again Welcome.

Welcome demo man, definately send some pictures and include some of the signal arm. I have a 52 3/4 with the inside ratchet for the signal arm but have never seen the arm itself. Wondering if I should get rid of it as work goes along or try to find the rest of it.

Hey Demo Man -- I was just thinking that a 48 GMC 1 ton is probably going to be rather difficult to enjoy way down there in amongst all those kali-forny crowds. I'm just a few hundred miles away, so I'll be right down and get that big cumbersome thing out of your way.

Boo

Hey, Demo man, welcome aboard!! This is a cool place to hang out.
When you send in your pictures, be sure to include some of that ambulance. Peg's got a spot in the alternative gallery for stuff like that. I, for one, would sure love to see it.

Hey demo man- greetings from a CA native in Seattle. This is a great site to hang and lots of great help. I grew up in San Lorenzo, bought my '49 in Oakland in '73 and moved to Seattle in '81. Mom still lives over on Hesperian in a moble home park, so I get down there about twice a year. How close are you to Vic Hubbard's ? I dropped a lot of $$ in that Place !!!

hey there nvrdone, im only about 2 blocks from vic hubbards. actualy, im sure you know of RMP muffler on the corner of A and hesperian. well thats where i actualy live for a short while longer. i do construction by day, and make performance mufflers part time for pocket cash at night. and if theres anyone in my area that would like to hook up for coffee or beer drop me a line.
i got the truck from my co worker and we hit the swap meets together a lot, and he knows a lot of people with rods and is into that also. anyway , its fun to bs with others and learn a few things.

Hey demo man-- incredable. RPM did a system for me on a '66 ss3696 chevelle I had many moons ago. There also was a scrap metal shop right next door. If you'r 49, you might have gone to H.S. with my wife. Are you a local or a transplant ?
