I have figured out that it is a '56 235.
Is this a truck engine or a car engine?

I'm assuming it is a truck engine. While not original, (I have a 3/4 ton GMC) my truck had been used as a tow truck & needed a lot of low end torque. The block and head casting #'s are for 1956, but I don't know how to decipher the serial#

0309751=production sequence number
T=Tonawanda engine plant
56=model year
X=regular production "Thriftmaster" 235 used in the 3100 series trucks.
A truck engine should have solid lifters.
