Freak,
What kinds of things are you looking for? I'm doing a '40 GMC and have found lots of stuff right here in the classified section, also I've purchased quite a few items from Jim Carter Classic Truck Parts and The Filling Station. They've both been very helpful and responsive. I know there are alot of other suppliers out there. Quite a few people have been talking about American Classic because of their sponsorship of this website. Let me know what you need and maybe I can help you find it or point you in the right direction.

Lots more parts vendors for the AD (47-54) trucks and up.. but there are new parts available for the older trucks.. just takes a little more digging.

The classifieds section here on the Stovebolt page, Jim Carters, and eBay are the places i'd look.

Some parts you'll probably have to wait around for if you want to get them at a good price.. most new repro parts out there in catalogs are pretty high priced.

What parts are you looking for?

They are out there.. but far and few between.

When they come up on eBay they can get a little pricy.. i've seen a set of rear fenders that needed blasted, few small tears fixed, primed, and painted go for $500+ on eBay, plus shipping.

I haven't seen any new steel body parts available for the pre '47 trucks.. so the secondary market (eBay, swap meets, junkyards, Stovebolt Swap Meet section) will be where you'll have to look.

On an unrelated note.. theres a key to the left of your keyboard that says "Caps Lock".. hit that button real quick for us, would ya? smile

I needed both rear fenders for my '40. You can use rears from '40-'46. I bought an NOS for $700 (more than I paid for the truck itself!!), then got the other side for $150 but it needs a little work. I figure I'll be into that one for another $200 maybe. They are out there, though, just like Fumblin' said. I found the NOS in Hemmings and the other one here on the 'Bolt. Floorboards are a challenge as well. I'd check every junkyard within 50 miles. You just might get lucky and not have to pay an arm and a leg. I actually had to buy two floorboards that had been kinda chopped up but I can make one floorboard out of them. Good luck and let us know how the search goes. Also, try posting something in the parts section asking for what you need.

I'm working on a 40 1/2 ton and decided to get a parts truck.

I bought a MIG welder and am reworking the fenders. I figured the welder would be cheaper than the cost of good fenders.

I don't know where you're located but there are several 40s around that you could use as parts.

The floorboards are tough to find, I'm using a fiberglass one until I can locate an original. Beware that the floorboards aren't the same for all 40 trucks.

All depends on how much time you have.

I made my own floorboards, If you have a mig its not to tough. Even made a frame using 1/2x1/2 square tubing so its still removeable. Also added a tunnel so the th350 would clear. This photo shows the toe piece,

Chevyfreak,

I'm glad you're finding lots of good advice here. If I might add a small point of 'net etiquette -- it's considered impolite to use all caps.

Have fun with your 40 -- I hope you can post some pics of it when you get a chance!

ChevyFreak -

Where is Bobvile? It might help someone to give you directions to someplace close to you that they know could have something you might be able to use.

Just a thought!

click the 'links' page at the top of this page, then 'parts' then look by year.

A list of where/how to find used pre-1973 GM truck parts.

Hey Freak,
You're in luck, big time. Barry Weeks lives in Lake Elmo and I bought my less expensive fender from him a few weeks ago. I'm not sure what he's got as far as parts but he had a '40 that he was parting out I think. If not, he is one of the most knowlegeable guys on this site for sure. He has a business, Weeks End Machine, there in Lake Elmo. I wish I was as close to him as you are.

Hey, maybe you guys could go into business together. You could call it "Freak 'N' Weeks" grin grin grin

Well, now you've been made fun of here on the Stovebolt Page. You're official now!

Have a great day and try to get ahold of Barry.

Kevin,

Yes, Barry is THE '40's guy (plus other stuff). Check his web site for contact info .

Barry was our first contact before we started The Stovebolt Page! John had a '39 Chevy 1/2-ton then. So he and Barry had some interesting adventures back then.

Ahh ... the early days of snail mail smile

Thank you guys for your help. The 40 chev I was looking at was actualy the one that barry is selling here at stovebolt and I went to look at it tonight. On another note for runing boards on that year truck I know you can buy smooth metal ones but is there away you can rib them? and if so what would you need to do that? thanks, JJ
