Can someone send pics of the under bed spare tire mount system for a 1965 C-10? I need to fab one, and I have only seen a reference drawing in the L%C catalog. Thanks for the pics. I'm thinkin I might cut the lowering mechanism out of my Isuzu (please don't laugh, or throw me out of here) truck and install it under my 66. Anyone else done something similar with the newer mechanisms?

I was thinking of robbing the cable mount system from an Astro van, but this will be much better. Trouble is, what am I going to do when I put a new fuel tank back there? I have a bracket that mounts just forward of the left wheel tub that appears to be some kind of tire mount, is that what it is? Thanks, Mike | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | hey woog, I have one that is pretty similar to the on in the picture. It came with my 53. Could it be, or is it original? I wasn't sure. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 | ArticCat - it is my understanding that they did not change the basic design too much for a good while... but I can't say for sure. Maybe the '47 2nd series -'55 1st series guys will weigh in here.
Rance - some people have used the mechanism like the one in a chevy s-10 or the full size chevy truck from the 90's - I actually bought the wire spool type holder off a '96 chevy myself from a junkyard to try to mount it up on my '65 - but then I found out RJ had an original type one for sale, so I figured I'd try it out first. People have used all kinds of things to hold the tire up.
I once thought about using a few long J-hooks with bolt ends on them, mountin' them somewhere, then sticking the bolt ends of the J-hook through the bolt holes on the spare... then twisting on a wingnut to secure it. I figured this would be a pain though trying to line up two holes, under the bed....
