on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2 | Hello everyone!! I'm new here and looking for some advise. Over the next few years I'll be piecing together a 39 or 40 Chev 1/2 ton. The reason I say 39 or 40 is because at this point I only have the cab and doors for a 39 model. I know that I will have to buy fibreglass fenders. I was wondering what will fit these 1/2 tons from the larger trucks like the 1 ton and so on. Because I live in a farming community I may have better luck finding parts from the "big" trucks. Most of the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton pick ups have already been grabbed up in this area. So, if anyone has an idea of what parts I can use to get my 1/2 together please let me know. P.S I may also put this truck on an S10 frame, maybe, nothing is for sure as of yet!!! Thanks....Lennox

They did make 1 ton pickups so you could possible piece one together. I have a Canadian 1940 GMC 1 ton pickup. The only real difference between the 3/4 ton and 1 ton is the rear brakes, rear springs and diff. ratio. Front brakes and I believe front suspension is the same between 3/4 and 1 tons. Welcome aboard and good luck. Here are a few photos of my '40 and my '66: http://community.webshots.com/user/ndnchf Steve | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2 | Thanks NDNCHF, not really worried about running gear and suspension etc. Just trying to focus on sheetmetal for now. Your GMC is real nice. My 48 GMC is in the gallery. I think the cabs are all the same for all the models (wishful thinking) That said, I hope the hoods/rad support/grille would also be shared between the larger trucks and the 1/2 & 3/4 ton trucks.

Good luck with your project. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 338 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 338 | I believe that the sheet metal was the same for all of the models. One way to check is look at the master parts catalog and see if they have the same part number.
Keep an eye on e-bay too, I've seen 40 sheet metal off and on.
Great to have another 40 headed for the road, however long it takes to get there. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 92 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 92 | Hey Lennox / Frapp..
Just in case you didn't know... there is two pretty decent places for parts near you. Iron Chief in Stony Plain and Scott's Super Trucks in Penhold.

I don't have anything intelligent to add to this discussion, just wanted to say I also have a 40 chevy 1/2 ton that's been fun to work on. Here's a couple of pics. http://community.webshots.com/user/leagl Larry | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 170 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 170 | It sure is cool to see all these '40 trucks. Sometimes I feel like alone in a world of AD trucks.
