Wondered if anybody had a pic or drawing of an original A.D. jack? I have all the usual suspects as far as literature goes and I can't find a thing on jacks. Thanks

Good question. I've even asked the tool expert for the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America and he does not know. The general consensus is that it was a screw type jack. I've seen a few pictures of jacks people thought came with their trucks, but, nothing positive. Maybe, Chevy used different vendors for jacks like some of the tools.

These photos have been posted by others over the years. I have no first-hand knowledge of what the truck jack looked like. Supposedly, there were different jacks over the years and the truck jacks (or, at least their handles) were supposedly different from car jacks for some if not all years.

In 1954, different size trucks came with different sized jacks (1/2 and 3/4 ton were the same; 4000 and larger were the same). The raised and lowered heights of the jacks were different (4 sizes, if you count the 1500 Sedan Delivery).

Thanks guys, I found one of those jacks at my local truck graveyard but I didn't know if it was the correct one. Didn't find the handle though. Guess I'll keep kickin around there and maybe I'll find one. THanks again.

Here's a picture of the jack that came out of my 1 1/2 ton A.D I don't know if it's correct to my truck or not but it looks old enough. Sorry about the sideways picture,

The picture of the jack that Tim posted I believe is correct for the 1/2 ton truck. My 49 restoration pack gives the dimensions of the jack when extended and retracted. The old jack I found in a junk yard, just like Tims's, matches those dimensions. Not postive proof, but certainly helps.

Tim and everyone, the pics of your jack are the exact dupe of the jack that was in my dads 62 gmc sub in a channel bracket held down by a spring under the bottom seat cushion on the drivers side.

I remember my Dad using a jack like the one Scott posted on his '53 3/4 ton. Not that that is any kind of proof it was original.
I remember being facinated with the way it worked- 45 years later simple things still get my attention :rolleyes:

Jack married Noe and they had 6 children:  Holie, Fulla, Giva, Bull [a high school dropout], and the twins: Deep and Dip.
After being married for 15 years Jack and Noe divorced.
Noe later married Mr. Sherlock and because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name, becoming Noe ....-Sherlock.
Dip married Loda and they produced a cowardly son, Chicken.
Fulla and Giva were inseparable throughout childhood and, consequently, married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony.
The ....-Happens children are Dawg, Byrd, and Horse.
Bull, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world.  He recently returned with his new bride, Pisa.


I have onea those other jacks too, from a 60's trucks, but darn if I remember where I put the handle! prolly cut it up when I needed a piece of rod for something!

The first two threads are factory original jacks for the '60-'66 as indicated in the factory jack instructions that were adhered to the floor adjacent to the jack, handle and lug wrench mounting brackets under the driver's seat. The third thread is the same style jack, minus the jack saddle that is attached to the top of the jack stem for capturing axle tubes, king pins, frame rail and other shapes found under the truck.

I am restoring a '66, C-10 and '66, K-10 that were both minus the factory jack, lug wrench and handle. I knew what was provided from the factory from the factory jack illustrations, as well as the equipment that come in a '66 one owner that I bought in 1983. I acquired two original jacks and handles, but was unable to find the lug wrench. I also have the factory jack instructions. Yeah, what have people done with their old jacks? Tried to find one for my 48 for ever...

Where was the jack originally stored in the 54 and 55.1 trucks? I live not to far from a bone yard and might go looking if I knew where to look.
